Thinking About Getting a Fallkniven Northern Lights Knife

I could really see the NL1 Tor in a new Rambo movie. I always drooled over his knives, even though the copies were sh1t!

I have a decision issue on a medium sized Fallkniven belt/ sheath knife for general purpose use, that can handle the odd heavy task and need some advice. I live in a remote part of Australia, where having a knife on you is not out of the norm and I'm almost always heading out in some dangerous bush for an adventure of some sort or another. I use to rely on Gerber, however in my opinion they are not as good as they use to be and are built to a budget. I need to be able to rely on my equipement out here.

Initially I was dead set on the A1. In my opinion the ultimate survival knife, as it is able to perfrom chopping and battoning tasks if necessary, where F1 is not. Then like you guys I discovered the exclusivity, beauty and strength of the NL series of knives. I had a squiz on you-tube and the Fallkniven site and I selected the NL5, NL4 and NL3.

My dilemma is I thought I liked the NL4 at 5.1" it seemed perfect, but what concerns me is that it dosent have a full guard and Fallkniven says it is only 'relatively strong', whereas they say the NL3 is 'powerful, a thrill to use, not in the least clumsy and a good all round knife'. I just want to hear from people who have used these knifes and maybe help me decide. Cheers

I own and use the Idun, Frej, Odin and Tor.

In my book the Idun and Odin are the perfect companions for anything Outdoors.

For those preferring full size knives, the Frej and Tor are a set.

The 6" Njord hasn't caught me yet, as I think it is too much in the middle of things.
I know that many wants a knife in this size.
I'm just not one of them.

So, IMO You can't go wrong with the Idun & Odin!

I know that the bestsellers of the NL series are the Tor and the Idun.
So far in ten years or so on the market, Fällkniven claims that no NL has returned to them in pieces!

Many thanks Mikael. No matter how much commercial reading you do when selecting a knife it dosent substitute someones experience.

The Odin gives me the urge to get a bulldog tattooed on my arm, shave my head, buy mirrored sunglasses and wear my pants inside of my boots. It stays in the truck and rarely leaves the sheath. It's pretty useless for most tasks other than maybe battoning the roof off a 1972 AMC Gremlin. It is very well made an looks good.

Good to know, when I see a -72 AMC Gremlin overhere!

I mostly use my Odin in chopping saplings & branches on the property.
It can be used for fine cutting too, when getting accustomed to the knife.
To my criterias, this is one of the finest production knives I have used ever.
