Thinking of Adding an ALOX SAK to my Daily Carry. Anyone Else Supplement their EDC Knife With a SAK?

Not alox but I do carry a Recruit daily along with whatever modern folder I have on me. I carried a Cadet until it was stolen from my checked luggage by someone that felt they needed it more than I did. It's a solid choice as well and I'd still be carrying it as opposed to the Recruit that replaced it.

I've been carrying a Spyderco Centofante III about 80% of the time for more than ten years. It shows some age and I'm not kind to it. Even wore it in the ocean a few times to see if I could get it to rust. I'm looking forward to seeing your Endura.

I’ll post a pic of it.

I have to get a membership to IMGUR before I can post pics though.
I’ll get it done tonight.

Thank you all for the advice.

What do you all think of the slightly smaller models with the enhanced grip? I like the yellow one, I think it’s number 18.
I haven’t seen many mentions of that series and wondered what you all think of them.
Dont know about those. I like my hiker. But my favorite was the cadet. It was so thin and handy. I used it all the time. Lost it about 7 years back and never replaced it. I would also be interested in those also. Besides a cadet or a recruit i have always been interested in the small 81mm tinker. It looks very pocket friendly.

My SAK is my EDC knife. I carried a Pioneer for a while, but I stopped because (and you're not gonna believe this!) the blade snapped into place so forcefully that it hurt my thumbnail. My current EDC default is either an Explorer or a Climber, along with (sometimes) my Leatherman Wave or Curl (for the pliers, saw, and one-hand-opening blade). I don't own any modern one-hand-opening folding knives.

There's no such thing as a bad choice when it comes to SAKs.

I have one with the locking main blade. They feel fine in my hand while using but I can’t say it feels better than a traditional style sak. I do like the Packlock and really like the models with the secondary blade.

I carry a pioneer with some frequency.

I'd order a pioneer X if it included the nail file.

Or a farmer..

The nail file seems to be the least included feature, but is one of my most used on other multitools.

I carry a Leatherman wave every day, and often the VIC is left at home, because I have all the "tools" covered by the wave.

I have a Farmer, an Electrician, and a Pioneer that get carried as either a primary or a secondary knife.
For a secondary, I usually choose the Pioneer. (I like the thinness and tool selection.)
For a primary carry, I usually choose the Electrician. (Gotta have a sheepsfoot blade.)
Farmer gets carried on specific occasions.

(Yes, I color coded the lanyards. Speeds up grabbing the right one. )

I always carry a Rambler as my primary EDC knife. My Gerber AirFrame is the supplement, not the other way around.

But, after 30 some years of using Victorinox knives, I didn't know until earlier today the differences between the 93 mm and 91 mm models, and now I really want a 93 mm silver Alox model, I just can't decide which one, because none of the current production models have the set of tools I want.

Ideally, for civilisation carry, I'd want the Pioneer X, but replace the reamer with the small blade from the Pioneer Settler, and replace the can opener with the small Electrician's blade. And then for wilderness carry, the Farmer X, but replace the can opener with the small Electrician's blade.

I don't need a saw or an awl in the city, and I don't need a can opener, ever. Cans of food are too damned heavy to carry into the wilderness.

Because the Pioneer Settler existed, I know that the small blade will fit in the same layer as the large blade. And because the Electrician exists and the Electrician Duo existed, I know the small Electrician's blade will fit where the can opener normally is. So, I guess I'm going to need to have someone make me a couple of custom models--which again, I just found out today is a thing!

Oh what wouldn't we give for the settler to return!

I usually supplement whatever knives (plural) I'm carrying with a 4 blade Scout/Camp knife or Demo knife, or an Engineers knife. Before I misplaced it, I also pared whatever else I was carrying with a SAK Huntsman.
That's not counting the SAK Signature that's been on my keyring since December 25 of 2000 or 2001.

To the OP I would recommend 2 SAKs: A Rambler for your keychain and a Cadet. Since you already have a larger knife the the Cadet would be a great backup. While I love the larger scissors on my Pioneer X the Cadet\Rambler combo has more utility day to day IMO.
I could make do with the cadet/rambler combo but I don’t need 2 fingernail files, so I would prefer the rambler/pioneer combo simply because that inline awl on the pioneer is reeeeeally useful.
Just my .02

It’s really hard to ignore the utility of an SAK, especially as a secondary knife.

For me, it’s the Cadet. The ease of carry (thin; 1.6 oz) and nail cleaner just fit the bill. Coupled with an Alox Classic SD (carried in my wallet, largely for the scissors) I feel it is a ton of utility for the weight. The thin blade is a nice alternative to my thicker primary carries (Fiddleback Forge Esquire and/or CRK Small Sebenza).

Anyway, I’m very happy with the choice.

I got a lot SAKs
None ALOX
So don't plan to add any ALOX yet
I can't see any reason for that

Still waiting on that Endura pic! I love the platform and would really like to see one with 20 years of honest wear.

No reason to have a lot of SAKs either, yet you do. The Alox models are more robust. So there's a reason!
