Thinking of Adding an ALOX SAK to my Daily Carry. Anyone Else Supplement their EDC Knife With a SAK?

I could make do with the cadet/rambler combo but I don’t need 2 fingernail files, so I would prefer the rambler/pioneer combo simply because that inline awl on the pioneer is reeeeeally useful.
Just my .02
My personal favorite combination is the pioneer/rambler. Pretty hard to beat.

I’m so sorry about the pic. I’ll get it posted tomorrow for sure. I need to join a photo sharing service to be able to post pics. I thought I could post them right from my phone, but I can’t.

I’ll get it done.

No worries but get on it! I use imgur and it is super easy. I love the Endura and have a bunch of photos of mine saved in there, ready to post!

I am hoping I have this Imgur thing figured out…

A bit of clarification. I bought the Spyderco Endura after seeing the stainless Police in my local gun shop. That was the one I really wanted, but it was too expensive at the time. I had to watch my “fun money” closely…
😎

Anyway, I bought it online at a Pharmacy. I know it sounds weird, I thought so too. They were a legit knife shop with a pharmacy in the other part of the store.
I found the Endura and had to have it. I liked it so much because it was some kinda special version with a flat black blade with the typical handle. I loved it. It was an awesome knife. Carried it and used it for about a year and a half or so, give or take. Then disaster! As I was standing up out of my chair, somehow my pocket clip became attached and as I stood up, the part of the handle that kept the pocket clip in place ripped right off. It was terrible. I called Spyderco and they told me to send it in. I did.

About 2 weeks later I got my knife back and couldn’t wait to get it back in my pocket. Upon opening I was let down. Despite me telling Spyderco multiple times in my note to them that I wanted the black blade, they ignored it and sent me the knife I have now. It’s a great knife that has served me very well for a long time, but it’s not the knife I originally bought. I liked the black blade version much more than this one.

The blade on the black blades version I originally bought had a much sharper point. The blade shape was more of a straight triangle instead of the shape it has now which is a kinda rounded triangle. The black blade resembles the blade style on the stainless Police version back then and currently.

I’ll get a stainless Police with the Spydie Edge at some point though. Maybe I can find a great deal on one.
A guy can hope can’t he??

Sorry all for being so darned late with this.

Have a good one.

BEAUTIFUL collection CrayTab. Thank you for sharing them. I never get tired of seeing pics of nice knives…..and guns!

You are much better at this image stuff than I am.

Thank you!

And that is a well used Endura! I'm no expert but I think I can explain why you ended up with that knife. From how old you said your knife was originally, I was not expecting to see an Endura 4, more an earlier version (see pic below of what that handle would look like) or an even older version with a plastic clip. I'm betting that what you got returned to you was the updated version of the Endura. The blade on the newer 4 is less pointy. If the knife you sent in was old enough to have a plastic clip they may not have had the parts, maybe even not the Endura 3 or whatever it was you sent in. It is also quite possible that the place you bought from had older new stock so the knife you sent in was not even currently being sold new when you bought it. Sounds like it wasn't exactly a standard dealer setup. Anyway, a lot of speculation by me but maybe a little explanation too!

The iteration of Enduras before the 4 had this handle you see on my Pacific Salt (different blade though):

Oh, and the good news is there are quite a few new versions of the police out and plenty of old ones that come up on the exchange here so you can absolutely get into that model too!

My pocket dump includes 3 SAK’s: 1) an Alox Money Clip with added cut (real) file, 2) a skeletonized, anodized TI Waiter with added saw, and 3) a Ti Spydie SAK MiniChamp. The CEM Maniago folder on the key caddie has a curved jaw, flush cutting cuticle nipper (my most used tool). It takes a vest and cargo shorts to carry all this junk. The Zeiss monocular rides in a pouch on my suspenders.View attachment 1726065

Thank you CrayTab and others for the education on my knife.
I trust your knowledge as to the details of my Endura. I really liked the black bladed Endura. I wanted that one back, but for whatever reason, Spyderco sent me a whole new knife.
The black blade Endura definitely had a sharp point. It’s done great for me over all these years. Spyderco has fantastic customer service. I will ABSOLUTELY buy more knives from them. I like bigger blades and that kinda narrows it down a bit. I’ve thought about trying the Resilience, but I’d like to handle one first. I also love the stainless police, Native Chief, Manix 2XL, and I’m slowly warming up to the YOJUMBO. The versions that have been modded are just awesome looking.

One other I’ve been tossing around in my head is the Civilian and the others with that blade style. I’m trying to figure out whether it would be a good choice for an EDC blade, while I have an ALOX in the other pocket to do knife stuff when needed.

Any thoughts on these few I mentioned.

Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe and healthy out there!!

I like the all the knives you mentioned, though I haven't owned any of them besides the civilian and resilience. I have too many knives as it is but I have looked seriously at the police, Chief, and manix 2xl. Take a look at the not yet out stretch 2xl. Sort of like an endura but different, and pointy.

I had the Civilian. It is a well made but very purpose driven knife. Really only good for slashing type SD cuts. No stabbing. Forget every day cutting or yard work. It also seemed too bulky to effectively be conceal carried as well as intended. I much prefer a Spyderhawk or tasman salt. So much lighter but similar slashing power, and useful for more tasks than just SD.

Spyderhawk. I think there was a sprint run a while back. You'd have to look on the secondary market. I think the ultimate utility for EDC tasks and SD might be the Pacifit Salt 2 in H1 fully serrated. You can stab and slash, plus the blade is good at normal stuff tooo. Nice and light.

Since for the last several years a Rambler has been on my key-chain I guess one could say I often supplement my EDC SAK with another knife and most often it's a Farmer. Is that supplementing a SAK with a SAK?
A wide variety of this type of supplemental activity can be seen here;
