Thinnest Knife EVER?

In the custom world, Don Hanson's folders are extremely thin, and exceptionally well made.

Some of us are talking about the thinnest knife, which was the original question, and some about the thinnest blade.

The best combination of thiness and durability is the Mercator K55K Kat knife. The handle is folded carbon steel with a piano wire lock spring. The blade is around 1084 carbon steel, tough and easy to sharpen. I have used them as throwing knives and rarely broken a point. If you abuse the snot out of them they loosen up, but virtually never break. All non-stainless makes for toughness. The handle is painted black and it is easy to use instant gun bluing on the blade.

Personally I like a nice thin knife that is not really noticed when you carry it, providing that it can still provide plenty of handle to get a grip on when you use it. On some it is hard to get both.

The Ouparator Jr. I made for myself pictured below in my signiture line is the thinnest knife of all that I currrently own. It is 9mm thick at the thickest point and about 8mm at the bolsters. ( thicker measurement does not include the pocket clip) I pulled that off partly by using a .030 thick 6AL-4V titanium liner on the non locking side.

Here you can see it beside the Strider/Buck Mini 881 which as you can see is nearly like carrying two of my Ouparators. Otherwise these are about the same size knives in all dimensions except for bulk felt in the pocket. The lock on my Ouparator is actually thicker than the Strider/Buck one.

The son of the right hand is correct. I'm looking for the world's thinnest KNIFE. I would actually like to find a thin knife that packs as much blade thickness as possible into a thin knife.

One way to get a thin knife is to get a small one. I have a Benchmade Big Spender and a Spyderco stainless steel Cricket. Both are extremely thin...

I've considered getting one of those fetching little Crickets, but because of the intended uses for this knife, I'll require enough handle to fit all my fingers. That led me to check out the new Spydie Navigator. Any comments on this knife?

Now that you guys have a better idea of what I want: thin knife, relatively thick blade, & a full (yet small) handle, please keep the suggestions rolling. This is going really well so far. Thanks to all of you.

P.S. One more thing, I want a clip. Please note whether your "thinnest knife" is available with a pocket clip.
P.S.S. Does the AG Russell Penknife have a clip, or just that little keychain attachment?

A thick blade is an inferior blade if it does not compensate for its reduced cutting performance by having increased toughness. The reason that I suggested a Mercator is that the blade is tough even though it is thin by today's standards.

To get equivalent toughness in a stainless steel blade you have to go thicker or wider or both. It is not the thinnest in the world, but an extremely tough and compact combination is the Camillus EDC folder. The blade is wide for its size and a reasonable thickness. The current AUS-8 alloy is decently tough and takes a great edge. The handle is optimized for very compact carry. It is light for its size.

I have given much consideration to the Camillus EDC. It looks like a great little knife. Can anyone compare it to Darrell Ralph's Gunhammer EDC Series? I'm a big fan of Mr. Ralph's designs and anyone who owns one would be welcome to share their feelings on how adept these blades are at actual EDC.

The question is simple: What is the THINNEST folding knife you've ever seen, handled, or owned? New criteria: Full sized knives only please. By full sized, I mean knives with handles large enough to fit all 4 fingers. (example: Under this criteria the Spyderco Navigator would be acceptable, yet the Spydie Cricket would NOT be acceptable.

Please note the perceived built quality, size, and whether it's available in black coating. Also note the carry options (i.e. is there a clip? tip down/up?)

Remember: We are looking for the thinnest knives, not knives with the thinnest blades.

An old Smith & Wesson folding dagger, which is quite similar to the A.G. Russell Funny Folder. Just a bit thicker than 6 millimeters (1/4 inch).

No clip, just a leather sheath with a bootclip.

AG Russel One Hander. The featherlite version is quite affordable. No black blade, no clip
