This drives me nuts!!!

Someone recommend that I try the g10 version. I wasn’t sure what the difference would be, but one fell into my lap. I have to say the clip is different. It’s not as stiff as the white one. Same shape same screws. I don’t know if it’s a fluke or what but the clip on the g10 is much better than the other one.
Are they different?

Idk but if new microtechs are falling in your lap then I’d like to know your secret. Is it a whistle, lure, or some kind of jig?

Following up with a pic to prove a point:

Two "budget friendly" knives and two NOT budget friendly knives. Guess which two have milled out spots in the G10 for flush fitting clips that also use flush fitting screws and which two don't. Sure, all four go into the pocket just fine but it feels like the two US knives would have that much nicer fit and finish feel of quality when it's the other two. One is a custom shop build and one also has a flush filling filler tab opposite if you wanted to swap sides. It's frustrating. And yes I love G10.
I can’t unsee those flush screws and slotted/milled out clip location in the G10 on those imports and now it’s all I want. Thanks a lot 😂

For those wondering, I confirmed that my Pro Tech Slimfoot Auto is the only knife in my collection with true flush screws on the clip.

The CRKT CEO is a quasi flush fit. Pics for reference.

This bugs me more than ever in 2024 as flush-fitting clip screws are largely standard with most of the Chinese brands. There are exceptions and it's enough to sink an otherwise attractive model, like the new budget version of the Kansept Anomaly and the Petrified Fish Tunny. I'd have purchased both of them if they'd just spent the extra cents to sink those screws.

Some people accused me of being picky on those two but that's the other thing. The level of choice in the current knife market is huge and inflation has made me think more about my purchases. So little stuff like this really matters to me.

Another place this gets me is with Lynch and MXG clips for Spyderco knives. Yeah, I know there are plenty of people who like shallow carry or care about clips accommodating lanyard holes but for the rest of us, a Lynch or MXG is mandatory on those models. Sure, it might not be as bad when those screw heads are offset a little but it still sucks. Lately, I've only been buying Spydies with wire clips as a result.

To throw some gas on the fire...

This is from an etsy seller for my Delica:

Factory screws set in the clip. Only four months of carry so far but zero issues. Not perfect but I feel it's superior to the factory clip. Also my only non Lynch clip on a Spyderco.
