I should have seen this coming a mile away. Owner of a local sporting goods store asked me to make him a damascus knife after seeing a few of mine being toted by the local crowd. He is the type that when you want to swap/trade his stuff is gold...yours is crap...always finding fault with your stuff. I am sure you know the type. Anyway, a month ago he saw one of my knives and said "Can ya make me one just like that, only a tad smaller and with some of that stag for the handles?" I explained that I can and will make it 10% smaller, out of damascus, etc. I further explained that I would take my pattern and reduce it in size by 10% in the copier machine and make his knife from that. "Man, hurry up and get it done!" he said. You do see where this is headed don't you?

I finished up the knife in my 105 degree shop today at 2:30 PM (see earlier post on hotter than 700 hells shop) using some primo stag and it was one of those knives you just look at and pat yourself on the back about...everything came out great and it would split red hairs in half lengthwise!

Take it by the gunshop and he looks at it and tells me "can you make it just a tad bigger? It (the handle) don't fill my hands up like I thought it would." Then he proceeds to run down the stag! I just left shaking my head and swearing that I would never spend another penny in his store. Oh well...its his money and his perogotive. Likewise, its my money too...and it will be spent elsewhere as well.

Pounding my head against a wall...should have seen this coming. This guy is the only guy that this type crap happens with.

some people are impossible to please. if u had made the handle a tad bit lorger for him then it would need to be made a little larger or smaller. i hate poeple like this, actually i own a construction company and do primo custom work for high dollar folks , but if i get that vibe when i do a bid i usually call , thank them for there interest but turn job down. you can usually tell these kind of people if u can read people good.

Sure this wasn't a gun shop in Copperas Cove TX? Yea, I know the type very well. They are the same type that think if it was from a local maker, It's crap. (NO matter how well known the maker is, as they don't know diddely about custom knives). But if it's from out of state, no matter how bad the workmanship, its the best money can buy. This same clown tried to sell me a pakastanie made el-cheapo bowie, that someone had trophy shop engraved Ralph Bone on the blade, just under Iorn Maiden. I told him it was areally bad fake. I mean, the blade wasn't a ful 1/8" thick on a 10' blade. He was pissed. He later sold it for 750.00. knowing full well it was fake. He wanted to know how in the hell I would know anyway. I told him, Ray, Ive been doing this a lot of years. Just as you've been selling guns a lot of years. What if i came into your store and tried to tell you that a little piece of crap R.G. .22 I was trying to sell you was a Smith and Wesson, just because I took it to a trophy shop and had it engraved on the barrell. He said that was different. Huh?

Hey Bumpo...I just finished it yesterday and have not sold it yet. I felt like throwing it in the lake in front of him and stomping off...just for effect. I ain't that stupid yet though.

Lovett, I see you are from Killen TX?? I have a friend that is a pediatric dentist there I believe...he and I have elk hunted together in NM before. Great guy. You should have had that guy busted for fraud for engraving that cheep ass Bowie and passing it off.

Dakota, I know exactly what you are talking about...you have to be a good judge of people. Unfortunately, I am extremely trusting to a fault.

Been there too many times. I don't sell them but love to trade. Like you said, the other guy always thinks his stuff is gold.
I had one fellow who was the prop man on a movie that wanted a Damascus knife badly. He saw one of mine and said can you make one just like that, just different!
When we discussed it, he wanted something that looked older.
We decided to trade for an old wagon wheel rim that I hope is wrought iron. I haven't had a chance to cut and etch a piece yet because I'm too damn busy making Damascus blade knives that look old, but not too old, but look like new old, but look fancy by todays standards.

Oh.... it also needs to be big, but not too big and sharp but no one should be able to cut themselves.

LOL, Peter. I think I'd let the wagon wheel stay where it's at! I hate guys like that.

I did a favor to a coworker and made a couple of folders at cost, pluss just a bit. Basicly half price. The SOB tried to talk me down from there and then wanted a couple more as long as he could get a good deal.:barf:

I'm like you godogs, I get treated wrong at a place of buisness I don't go back.

I've been there as well. Not only did I make the knife again, but I took an order for another one! Guess what? He wasn't happy with that one either. I guess I'm a slow learner!!!

The world is full of numbskulls like these, and I believe that this is about them being full of jealosy and envy. This person looked at your knife and could only wish they could have such skills. Such people are complete losers. With that said take this jerk's comment as a compliment. So in closing, just keep it sheathed you can always cut his throat later.:D

hi mlovett, sounds a little like brock's out in copperas cove. no complaints here, he sold me a solid super x model 1 that i took a truckload of ducks with on those ft. hood stock tanks. thanks for the memories from some of my 'good old days'. sorry godogs for drifting off topic.
take care all, craig

This thread is worthless without pictures! I wanna see the knife, dammit! :)

Mlovett, I spent 4 years in Cove while I was stationed at Ft. Hood and I have NEVER seen scam artist like those that reside in Cove and Killeen!. Ripping off soldiers was their business, especially Action Pawn on Ft. Hood St. and ANYTHING on Rancier. It pissed me off to see soldiers piss away their money on fakes and bootlegs. It should be illegal. I picked up a brand new 357 in Austin for 269.00 and at those pawn shops it was 389.00. Come on! Everything was like this. Those people are the scourge of society.

Hey Danbo...will snap a pic tonite and post...
These folks that are never satisfied...I know them well in the hunting relm as well. A couple of years ago I got an invitation to hunt with a guy on his farm. I already have a place to hunt and just accepted it out of courtesy, as I work with farmers...I am with USDA. I asked if I could bring our 8-year old son along to see if he could take one out and was told "sure!". Get out there before daylight, meet him and get into his truck for him to take us out to our stand. On the way out he politely informs us that he will allow us to ONLY shoot a doe, and not just any doe. "Not one of the big adult ones, and not one of the smaller ones either...just a medium sized doe" he says. My son looks at me and I give him that one-word-and-I-will-kill-you look. We get on stand and the son asks me "Dad, what are we gonna do?". I tell him that we are just going to stay put until he comes back and not fire one dang shot. Whatever we would have shot would have been the wrong thing to shoot anyway. He came and picked us up at 10:00 AM and we politely lied to him, telling him that we didn't see a thing. Thanked him and never set foot back on the place.

He later on told some folks that I bugged the hell out of him to hunt on his property all the time. I never asked that bastard one damn time...like the comedian Ron White says...you can't fix stupid.

Pics coming.

best thing to say is that bigger isnt always better and no, I cant adjust the size. Then quickly sorry your not interested. This type guy will say.NO,...I want it IF he doesnt think he can spoon feed you what HE wants.

I know this type well. I think it's some sort of sociopathy, actually.
Avoiding this type is one of the reasons I don't take special orders, only requests. I only make stuff I can sell to someone else if the original guy flakes. It looks like you won't have any trouble selling this one. It's very nice.

That's a beautiful little knife! The guy is obviously a moron, and doesn't deserve it.
