This Fiddleback is special to me because.....

This thread makes me want a Fiddleback...

If you don't have one, you should get one. Andy puts a little something special into each knife. It's not something you can see in a picture; you have to hold one and use it. And then a little light pops on and you think "oh, so this is what a knife is supposed to feel like."

Fiddlebacks have soul.

This fiddleback is special because it is my first, in fact I have only just received it today. I have been going between an edc 2, mini Muk or hiking buddy for weeks but in the end the leaf shaped blade won it just reminds of the knapped blades our ancestors carried and that is a major draw for me.

Congrats on the pickup! Looking good !

This one is special to me because it represents my daughter. We had our first child on 9/4/16. I was really wanting a knife to carry kind of signifying that moment. What better knife than a Fiddleback. So first I was like something pink. Until this thread I had never seen a pink Fiddle. Then I thought Sapphire is the birthstone for September. I had seen Sapphire burlap. So I emailed Phillip, just inquiring about a semi-custom. I thought I had read long ago that they don't do customs, but no harm in asking. I wanted a hiking buddy with Sapphire burlap over black, with a pink pinstripe. Since that was a no go, I put up a want to buy in the flea market. Within an hour Cutchu posted this beautiful bushnub. It had everything I wanted except the pink pinstripe. So I pounced.

I know what you mean, I tried for some time to land a pink Fiddleback for my daughter, but the stars just never lined up. As it turns out, that is a good thing as she eventually burned herself out on pink, and it is now one of her least favorite colors. Now she is in love with the yellow jacket handle material...

This one.

Because...it was the most epic, memorable forum Friday I'd ever been a part of. Reminded me of every reason why I'm honored to be a part of this community. From the texts, PM's, and emails teasing and encouraging each other with bidding, to the protocol exchanges with the honorable Peter, to the shared laughter after the 4pm close, to the final complete sell-out of the Friday offerings. Topped off with the remarkable generosity of Andy, Phillip, Allen and the rest of the gang at the Forge.

Tony:

She is definitely a beauty. I hope you didn't shake that box too hard before you opened it !

Thanks for your kind words......BTW, if she ever needs a vacation you are more than welcome to ship her down to SW Florida (once we get back there). Just think what she'd look like with a nice tan :p

This Fiddleback is special because it's my first one. The Bushfinger was going to be a safe queen but I gave into temptation and had some fun with it. The superior blade geometry excels both in the woods, backyard and kitchen. Not to mention, it's also easy on the eyes. I've already bought a second Bushfinger to be a safe queen, for now.

The hunt for Blue, and the process of determining which Fiddleback Forge pattern to select first among so many, introduced me to this subforum and the wonderful community you have all created and fostered here.

This Patch knife could stand on its own merits-- what an amazing piece of cutlery-- but it's all the more special to me because of the caliber of people involved with Fiddleback Forge every step of the way.

I'm grateful to anyone who has ever taken the time to photograph, describe, compare, and/or exult in even one knife-- every bit of information helps when trying to understand a knife from afar-- but am especially grateful to Comprehensivist, Thurin, and Mistwalker for their contributions, and VANCE for his enthusiastic everythings. And of course, I am indebted to Kymedic45 for being willing to part with this stellar knife at all!

Thanks, everyone!

Oh, and in case I wasn't clear:

That's a beautiful Navy burlap Patch pertinux. Very nice of kymedic45 to let it go considering he is a big fan of the blue ones. My Emerald burlap Patch has served me well over the last two years. Despite the fact that I have my Patch currently listed in the Flea Market, I am still a big fan of the versatility of this model. It performs bigger than its size would indicate.

I hope you enjoy many years of us out of yours. I am glad that I was able to provide some useful info to help you in your selection. You did well!

Phil

I'll play again...

The Camp Knife was one of the models I had originally identified as a must-have when I first started looking at Fiddleback. Back in the day, there weren't so many around on the exchange, dealers or Fiddleback Fridays. When it looked like I might be leaving the US permanently a couple of years ago I reached out to Andy and Ken, Andy made this one available to me or of offered to make a synthetic handle knife that might be more suitable to the Philippines environment - I jumped on this one. I love the Marblewood handle scales and it has remained razor sharp after doing everything a Camp Knife is supposed to - happy in the woods and the kitchen.

OT: how has the marblewood held up over the years? Any shrinkage, gaps or warping? Thanks, it's a beautiful wood and I've always wondered about it.

The Marblewood has held up really well. No discernible shrinkage or warping. I've smothered it in mineral oil and kept it in a drawer when I haven't used it for a while. I cant't remember whether it is classed as naturally stable or whether it is stabilized - the wood grain/texture can be felt. This particular example is darker than I have seen on other knives.

So, I have several knives that I would only get rid of if I absolutely had to. I have 3 that I simply will never let go of.

The knife that showed me how awesome the people that work for Andy are.

The first time I tried to swim with the sharks I ended up claiming and paying for a knife that was already claimed. I was absolutely clueless about how things worked on Fridays. After a bunch of back and forth emails with Ken I ended up with the stainless Osage Lady above. Ken was so helpful with pics and descriptions of what was available at the shop. It was really a great eye opening experience.

The knife that showed me what a great guy Andy is.

So, basically, I tried to cut/pry a brand new arrow out of a pine tree. Not the brightest thing I've ever done but maybe not the dumbest either. Anyway, that resulted in the tip of the knife snapping off. I got in touch with Phillip to see how much it would cost to have it repaired. Understanding that this was 100% my fault for being a bone head, I didn't expect it to be done under the warranty. After asking Andy, Phillip got back to me and said there would be no charge, it was a new arrow after all. :D

Finally, the knife that showed me how awesome this community is.

Yes, this is the knife that Jarrett posted. That right there sums up why this knife reminds me of how awesome this community can be. :D I also have to say that it's simply an awesome knife. It's with me every time I go into the woods. Either in my pack or on my hip.

oh man,
Jim

I had forgotten about that. That's crazy that something I added to the end of a email/PM trying to make light of the situation had a positive affect. I would have never thought as much.:o

Yeah man. Sometimes it's the little details. To add to that; it's not that Jarrett went out of his way to get that knife to me. He listed it in the flea market and I was the first to say I'll take it. However, in the PMs that followed, he mentioned that he was glad that I got it because he remembered that I was the second one to call it in the Friday thread. Something I definitely remembered. :roll eyes: I thought it was awesome that he remembered as well. That knife reminds me of that time as well as all the quick and interesting PM conversations that I've had with other members due to knife sales, purchases, or related pics and postings. This forum is a great place filled with great people.
