This is a beer thread

Although introduced to me in the summer, Innis and Gunn ranks very highly on my list of good beers. I could get into their entire marketing ploy and all that, but in the end, the story makes for a very good, mellow beer that is very complex, much like the whisky that was aged in the same barrels. As referred to at the beginning of my post, however, this is much more of an autumn beer in my opinion.

For summer, I've been tasting as many different beers as I possibly can. Nods go to Pilsner Urquell, Bass Pale Ale, and Bushman's Lager.

If you can find it during the winter, a local brewery here in BC makes an absolutely tremendous winter ale. Look for Granville Island Brewing Winter Ale. It's a little bit sweet, and has notes of vanilla at the end. It's outstanding, and I can't wait for it to be back in season.

I brew my own. I prefer Brew Canada Canadian lager. I wait about 5 weeks before drinking, and use my own well water. Turns out excellent, and some people like it better than the popular brands at the beer store.

Store brands that I like are Labbat's Blue & Black Lable, and Black Ice beer.

finally someplace I can talk. Boundary Bay Imperial IPA is by far the best I've had for overall beer, along with the trappiste beers from belgium. In my stock at the moment is a Phillips Beer Company Selection, and Vancouver Island Brewery's Pipers. I always prefer micro brews.

Ah Friday, time for some good beer. Tonight I'll be having a Lagunitas Kill Ugly Radio (DIPA) and a Unibroue Don De Dieu, that should pretty much have me all warm and fuzzy :D

This summer, 2 brews have earned a special place in my heart: Victory Prima Pils (best pils I've ever had), and Allagash White (pricey, but the best witbier I've ever had; Hoegaarden, move over). Other, more long standing summer favorites include Anchor Liberty, Samuel Smith's Organically Brewed Lager, and any good German Hefeweissen.

Now that fall is almost here, I welcome the arrival of the Octoberfests. So far I've had the Sam Adams, Hacker-Pschorr, and Ayinger, all excellent. Malty, a little sweet, and goes down easy. Reminds me of the changing seasons.

I can't handle stouts and porters during the hot, humid summers here in SC, but Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Anchor Porter would be in my top ten - solid cold weather favorites, as well as Rogue Hazelnut Nectar, Samuel Adams Black Lager, and Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale.

Year round I like Anchor Steam, Fuller's ESB and London Pride (both fairly complex with the ESB being stronger and more bitter) , Victory Hop Devil, Titan IPA, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Chimay (blue and white) . . . and so on.

I could go on and on.

I'd like to hear your comments on the Lagunitas, I saw that in the store the other day and should have bought it, but slacked.

I also like some of the Unibroues, very nice. Trois Pistoles is my favorite.

Before my self-imposed exile to south Florida, I used to drink a lot of Great Lakes Brewing Company beers. I love their Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and Blackout Stout. I just can't get them here...:(

In lighter beers I like Weizens (the cloudier the better) and Ales.

I've got Rosacea, whenever I drink it feels like a blowtorch on my face. I turn beet red.

Before I had this crap, I would put away a six pack of Woodchuck Draft Cider. I know its not beer, but hell, its good.

SHS,

I've got Rosacea as well but still love a good brew. See if your Doc can prescribe some Triamcinolone Acetonide cream (Fougera). The stuff works.

As for my favorite beer, its gotta be Bell's Two Hearted Ale. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/1093

Other favorites:
Red Hook ESB
Alexander Keiths (when I'm in Canada)
Bell's Oberon
Flying Dog - Doggie Style Pale Ale
Fat Tire

There is a great sandwich place here in the southland called http://www.stuffedsandwich.com Sam runs the joint and is quite a character, they have the most incredible beer selection around, if you get the chance stop in and order a sandwich (thats the only way you'll get a beer). This place is world famous. Best thing to do is hire a car so you don't have to drive and the sandwichs are excellent.

The local microbrew (actually 300 feet from my house) Custom Brewcrafters makes a few damn tasty Irish Amber style brews. I also really dig trappist ale's.

Another vote for homebrewing! Midwest Brewing has some great kits. Among my favorites are Oatmeal Stout, a few varieties of Barleywine I've tried, and any of the Porters or IPA's...

In the fridge right now, I've got Red Hook's Long Hammer IPA and Sam Adams Octoberfest. For commercial beers I like to find the good tastes for under $7/6 pack.

I've got a soft spot for two of my regional microbreweries. Leinenkugel Brewery and The Joseph Huber Brewing comany which brews the Berghoff beers. I typically enjoy darker beers, ales, hefe-weizens etc. Anything with hops/malt flavor to make me believe that I'm drinking beer, not beer flavored water. Some of my faves:

Leinenkugel's Original- my everyday beer
Bass ale
Berghoff Pale Ale
Berghoff Hazelnut Winterfest Ale (seasonal)
Augsberger Dark
Leinenkugel's Big Butt DoppelBock
Shiner Bock
Guinnes
Sierra Nevada IPA
Leinenkugel's Octoberfest
Samuel Adams
Chimay-blue (never tried the white)
Schlitz...I know what you're thinking...but hey, I like it

The list goes on and on. -Matt-

Since we have a scotch thread and a cigar thread, I think we need a beer thread!

Everyone should post their favorite beers and/or what they are trying lately, but most importantly, why you like them! It is no good to tell us what you are drinking if you don't share a little bit about it!

I'm at work right now, so nothing in my glass right now aside from some CocaCola, but I've got a pretty decent reserve at home, including:

AleSmith Speedway Stout
Stone Vertical Epic
Stone Old Guardian Barleywine
Stone Imperial Russian Stout
Unibroue Terrible
Sam Adams Triple Bock

Plus I'm sure a few more that are slipping my mind right now. As you can see, I like strong beers! That isn't to say I don't enjoy a good lager now and then, and Fransizkaner Hefewizen is one of my favoirte beers, but nothing beats a good stout or barleywine in my book!

Post your favs! :D

Sam Adams Triple Bock!!!
How old is the bottle you got,Steven?
I have two bottles been gathering dust, vintage '93 & '94.
The last known reference I could find was "97.
Great stuff though, the only beer I know of that was made to age.
Even when new, it had a rich cherry density to it and vanilla tones.
I should break one out to see what time has done to it!

Mete, I hate warm beer! :D

The only beer I don't like are wheats. I generally brew my own, but also like most Bocks, IPA's and ambers. Avery has a great IPA and a new double hopped one called 470. It's over 9%, so I only drink it when I'm already home...
