This is a bourbon thread...

Old Grand Dad is an excellent bourbon. I like the 80 proof stuff over the 100 proof bonded. Very smooth. Don't mix it with anything. Maybe one or two ice cubes. Ahhhhhhhhh!

Hey Guys: I've read all of the posts so far, so I guess it is time for me to display my total ignorance, and mention my "affordable" favorite. Ancient Age, Ancient with the extra aging. Not terribly pricey for what you end up with, and while in recent years, I've been gifted with a bottle of Knob Creek, Makers Mark, George Dickel, and Even Williams, the only one I would consider trading the AA-A would be the Even Williams. When bucks are tight, the regular Ancient Age at about 2/3 rds retail for the longer aged product is decent, and with a 1.75 ml bottle selling for less than $20. most places, one can not complain about the price. Then again, there may be some high end retail stores with better stock selection, but I tend to avoid them most of the time, and trade at my old favorite, where I know the employees. But the final result is, if it is a straight bourbon, it can't be all bad.

I'm not sure why people were talking about it either, but they sure were.

Since there'd been quite a bit of blending (pun intended ;)) of topic (as in, post #s 27, 51, 55, 57, 59, 67, 68, 86, 91, 141, 142, 147) and I had just tried something new (to me) I thought I'd join in. I never intended it to be one too many.

I'll stop now. :o ;) :foot: :)

Sorry tortoise, didn't mean to single you out:D All in good fun. Like I've said before, if it's brown, it tastes good goin' down.

BTW all,

Here's a new one that I tried this week. Was at Trader Joe's grocery store and saw this Rebel Yell straight Kentucky bourbon for $9.99. I figured for that price I can risk it. I was pleasantly surprised. Probably better for mixing, but even straight with a couple ice cubes it was surprisingly smooth and flavorful. If you see it, definitely pick one up and give it a try.

OUCH! Sorry to hear that wintermute:( I hate to rub it in, but here they've got a great selection of wine, liquor, and lots of excellent beer! In fact, I think that at least a third of the store is booze!

I thought I'd bring this back up to mention Four Roses Small Batch.

My bottle was from the third batch of this stuff. It was good. softer style, silky smooth with just a hint of shoe leather. not too sweet, with plenty of spice.

I have a boubon story.

I was driving through Deadwood this past July at 10:00 in the morning. I spied the number 10 saloon. I love all things western and if the number 10 is good enough for Wild Bill Hitchcock then its good enough for me. I thought Id be a man and go have a whiskey on an empty stomach. I ordered a Wild Turkey 101 and the bartender poured me half a glass. It did me in. I did not drive out of Deadwood, the wife had to do that.

Finally people who drink real whiskey instead of that watered-down crap the scottish make. I live in Kentucky, bourbon capital of the world, and more people drink scotch than bourbon here. Little girls can't handle a full flavored whiskey I guess. My personal favorite is Woodfords, but I've been trying to trick someone into buying me a bottle of Grand-Pappy van Winkle, I belive it is the 23 year. At 85$ a bottle I won't buy it for myself but I wouldn't turn it down for Christmas.

That is a great price for 23 yr old Pappy. Grab all you can.

+1

It's open to everyone. Click on Nimick's, Jonnymac's, Mongo's or my profiles, click on "social groups" on the right and follow the directions to join. I think the only way you can view it (at least the only way I know how to) is after you have joined, click on your profile and view your social groups.

Also, don't try visiting Woodford's distillery on a Monday.. It ain't open! :grumpy: Drove all the way from Seattle and had a small window of time to visit a distillery - missed the exit for Buffalo Trace, but found the one for Woodfords... Only to find it closed!!!! LOL!!!!

Oh well, I'm driving through there on Sunday, maybe I'll get a chance to swing by one on my return trip...

Meantime, tip a shot for me - I'll have some Bulliet for the ride home! :D
