This is a bourbon thread...

Just stay away from the Jeremiah Weed my friend...evil, evil stuff. I'll let the Dos Gringo's (a couple of rather out there fighter pilots) tell you all about it...

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is the best bourbon I've tried in the short time I've been drinking the stuff. Very good, very strong. I'm generally a fan of the WT bourbons. Currently working on a bottle of Russel's Reserve. It's not quite as good as the Rare Breed, but certainly worth drinking. It's a bit smoother than its higher-proof brethren.

Tried a bottle of Van Winkle 12 yo and didn't think it lived up to the hype. It was good, but not the best thing since sliced bread. May get another bottle in the summer, though, it was very smooth and refreshing.

Knob Creek is a good deal for the price, and around these parts it is often the best I can get. I really appreciate it. Working on a bottle of Baker's right now, and, as with the Van Winkle, not as good as some I've had, and rather pricey.

Buffalo Trace is the best deal for bourbon I've had. It's very good and very reasonably priced. Availability is limited around here, but I have no problem buying a couple bottles when I find it. Will be getting more of this soon.

Evan Williams Single Barrel is another good bourbon I've had recently. Noticed it had an interesting earthy flavor to it. Another good buy for the price.

When all else fails, I will drink Maker's or Wild Turkey 101. I prefer the WT, but both will do. As an aside, I can count on one hand the number of times I have drank bourbon any way other than neat. It's best that way, if you ask me.

My favorite:D...

Another bourbon that is often overlooked is Old Grand Dad 114, another barrel proof bourbon. This recipe used more rye than normal and has that very nice spicy, warm, sweet presence that fills the mouth. Drunken neat it tastes almost as if it had been warmed. OGD is made in the same distillery as Bookers so it isn't too surprising. Next time you are reaching for a bottle of Bookers on the store shelf grab a bottle of OGD 114 instead, save yourself more than enough money to stop by the local BBQ pit and get a half dozen sides of long smoked ribs.

I'll have to give the Old Grand Dad 114 a shot. Although the Bookers is my favorite, its cost is somewhat prohibitive. Thanks.

It's funny that both WT Rare Breed and Old Grand Dad 114 were just mentioned. My next purchase is going to be one of these two. Which one to get...If I come home with two bottles of bourbon, my wife might make me camp in the back yard (which isn't necessarily a bad thing...)

Nice photo D25! I like how the coloring on the Busse matches the Booker's perfectly.

Just wanted to bring this thread BTT

and to post my collection again:

also:

I had a chance to try the 2002, 2006, and 2007 Vintage George T Stagg side by side.

the 06' was the best followed by the 02' though the 02' had been open for a month or so.

Pappy Van Winkle 20 year is the best bourbon ever made. I'll kick your ass if you argue with me about this...I'm very partial to Pap.

Excellent idea bringin it back up Nimick. I was out for dinner with wife and friends last weekend and enjoyed sever Basil Haydens!! I think you're against it, but I like just a cube or two of ice;)

Cheers,
Jon

Just for the heck of it... Nimick, I wanna come on over for a massive bourbon tasting party. Please have lot's of BBQ for palate cleansing. I can bring some dead critter if you need.

I finally had a taste of Baker's. It had a fine layering of flavors with a slight bite going down. I would highly recommend Baker's for a try.

please do, the collection has grown a third since I took that picture.

I'm not drinking this stuff nearly fast enough.

Tried that Wild Turkey American Honey cordial. It is sweet and thick like honey. A little too sweet for my tastes. I took a small bottle fishing and made coffee early in the morning and added a shot in the coffee and it tasted fantastic. Then again it was intant coffee on a small folding stove, but early on a windy, chilly morning in the mountains it was good!

had a chance to try some 17yr vintage bourbon (yes, thats it's name "Vintage Bourbon"). lotsa wood, lotsa leather, light on the fruit. good finish though.

I'm beginning to think that there is a general sweet spot for bourbon between 7-16 years. anything older is too rough and woody for it's complexity and anything younger is to thin and/or simple to waste time with. I know what people say about pappy 20, but I don't buy it.

+1. Not bad at all for a $20 fifth. I just tried a bottle.
