This is a Cigar Thread

Here's my cigar gadget. Good thing I filled up the humidor during the flush times. Now that I'm a poor student,it'll be a while before I'm able to make any more cigar purchases. My favorite Camacho Corojo Dark and CAO Brazilia.

I'm a very special occasion cigar smoker. birthdays, marriages, graduations. stuff like that. But as rare as it is, i do enjoy a good cigar with a good scotch. Currently the humidor contains a fuente, partagas, montecristo, griffens, astral, ashton and davidoff. No cubans currently. Every time i find them in this country or others they're too damn expensive. Personally i think davidoff puts out cigars as good as many cubans anyway.

Chickenfried,

Nice gadget! Ever tried a punch to open the end of your cigar? That's all I use except for perfecto-style cigars with a pointy end.

-------

I have 4 humidors - 3 are 100ct and 1 is 50ct:

1. High-end stuff - like my favorites like Ashton, Montecristo. I keep it by my bed so I can watch it closely for temp/humid and mold.

2. Low-end stuff like Vegas 5, Baccarat, and a few other low-end favorites that are a good value for the money that I smoke in the mornings when I can only smoke about 1/3 of a cigar on the drive to work. I keep it in my "Hobby room" which I don't go in often.

3. And then I have a humidor of flavored cigars that so I don't contaminate my other humidors and cigars with the scents and flavors of the strongly flavored cigars. It's full of Acids and CAO flavors.

4. I have a little 50-ct humidor by my front door. Once every two weeks or so, I throw a handful of cigars from each of my other humidors into it. I "work" out of this one and this is the one I open each time I go out the door on a daily basis so I'm not going to and opening my other humidors every day.

I love a good cigar.... but I love a good pipe more.

I have a pipe and a bunch of tobacco. I can't keep one lit.
It's irritating, so I've pretty much given up on it.

(I have a free slightly-used pipe & a bunch of tobacco to anyone who wants it.)

Never tried a punch. Maybe I could try cleaning an empty .45 case and sharpening the rim with a file.

Perfecto's are my favorite shape, maybe from seeing them so much in cartoons. The Hemingway Short Stories are the only perfecto's I have right now.

My favorite cigar smoke is either a robusto or a corona. That's all I buy every time I pass the airport.

Still looking for the perfect $5-$7 cigar. Love Fuente Opus X....better than cubans but as much if not more in price.

Go here:

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/

Use the shipping savings program mentioned here:

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/program/help.cfm#shipping

But before you bid on anything, check the prices here:

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/index.asp

The auction site is owned by C.I. and some people make the mistake of bidding higher on an item than you can get it on C.I. for. Don't be one of those people.

Cigar Bid is the best kept cigar secret. I RARELY buy a cigar from anywhere else, unless I'm hanging at the local cigar bar, and even then, I don't "shop" for cigars anywhere but Cigar Bid.

Careful, it's addicting!:D

Best place for me to get a decent $3 to $5 cigar is from jrcigars.com. They ship from NC and have a very reasonable shipping rate via UPS ($2.63 per box.) I would stay away from the "corojos" and JR branded stuff and get boxes of the cigars you know and love. I have been ordering two boxes a month for over a year and JR hasn't failed once! They also have a "auction" business on their site, but it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble.

Glad I'm not the only guy on the planet who collects knives and smokes cigars...

I have a friend in Australia whose brother owns a smoke shop and sends me lots of cubans. He removes the rings so thier country of origin cannot be determined.

I also like A.Fuente robustos and Macanudos. We should have a forum just for pipe and cigar smokers. It could be called "The Humidor".

Long ashes everyone!!

I've tried a few Cubans. I didn't find them any better than quality smokes you can get, legally, in the US from many companies including Fuente. Certainly not worth the added espense, and risk, IMHO.

If you ever get a chance compare a Montechristo from cuba and a domestic knockoff. I was surprised how much smoother it was as well as a more lasting flavor. I agree that alot of non-cubans are better but I really prefer the Cuban monty's.

i like cubans if they are real, lotsa fakes around, i like the fuente opus X cigars, and monte christo #3 for non cubans.

i go to nuevo laredo upon occasion and there is one little shop which has a fair selection of cubans, pretty expensive though, but at least not fake, most i have seen elsewhere in NL are fake.

if ya just have a few for personal use i dont think there is a big risk at all, before 9/11 i used to bring back lotsa cuban rum and cigars and the customs guys usually said nothing, usually lol, most they ever did was seize them, but that was only once, now they are more alert to them imho, still if ya remove the bands...........1 time i bought a box of cheapo mex cigars and threw them away and put a box of cuban romeo y julieta's with the bands removed in the box, again no problems and they were really good let me tell ya.
