post some pics of yours!!

did you get the recurve or the spearpoint? i want BOTH, and i WILL have them one day.

It's gone up to $450.00. They used to be $425.00.

I find this knife remarkably lightweight for it's size.

Kewl. Thanks. How's Martin's warrantee regarding idiocy? I think I have an SnG coming in 11 weeks and the Strider Guys don't care what a moron I am. Is Rick in any way similar? Not that I'd use an Avenger to pry rocks from a stone wall, but you never know.

Thanks again.

yo mr boink - how does the avenger feel in your hand compared to other customs you have? is it comfy? it's hard to tell from the side view how thick/rounded that titanium frame is. holler.

gawd i want one.

Dear Alan:

Could you please clarify when and where I made the statement about the axis lock potentially releasing during the withdrawal of a thrust? I honestly don't recall saying that.

Thanks,

I think that your best bet is to get a CRK large Sebenza. It's not cheap but it meets your stated criteria. As a left handed person I have found that fewer, if any (except CRK) of the production companies carries a dedicated left hand folder. The Sebenza may be a bargain in the long term, it will last you a long, long time and it was designed to used hard. Otherwise your only option is go low end (user grade) custom. There are makers out there that will make you a very nice left hand folder in the $300 range.:)  ;) :p

Thanks,
mike - the release during withdrawal was my own theory.

i got the idea that you weren't too crazy about axis locks for tactical use from a second-hand account in this page. i just assumed brownie's words were true. my apologies for any propagation of inaccuracy.

by the way, what are your thoughts on the theoretical pros/cons of the axis lock in combat/defense use?

thanks in advance.

The knife is exceptionally comfortable. It's attributes are a custom designed thumbdisk that catches the thumb with great sureness and, once opened, your hand sort of locks into the handle. The current models have more of a softening of the G-10 scales. The older design was more rugged with consequential roughness to some folk's gentle hands. Lockup is bank vault solid, along with the best of the well executed frame locks.

Sabenza is also exellent for lefty handed use, like Scott Dog said. Depends upon your pocketbook. With Avenger, for a little more dough, you get a custom design that not everyone has, that has a mother of an appearance, big-ass blade swinging out and very little weight in the hand and pocket.

I know your comment is in jest, but I have not ready RJ's warranty. I am sure it's right up with the best makers in terms of standing behind the product, although I wonder whether it's intended as very hard use. Suffice to say, I would recommend leaving the prying to the prybars.

boink -

so do you agree with everyone else on the fabled "laser sharpness" of the martinized blade? what primary edge bevel angle would you guess it has, & what grade of finish on the edge? i know that these questions can't be answered with a ton of accuracy, but indulge me & throw some rough estimates.. are you ever gonna use the knife, or just sit & stroke them like i do to my customs?

heh..

I just made a trade for a (NIB) Benchmade 730, and I don't think I'll worry too much about its' axis-lock. (This will be my first Benchmade knife!). I also like the fact that it is VERY lefty-friendly.:).

Alan, the knife is very sharp, as are all of RJ Martin's knives. They are renowned for exceptional sharpness. I don't know what angles he does, but feel free to contact the maker with technical questions. Concerning touch-ups, he responded that using a Sharpmaker was OK.

Thanks, Boink. I wasn't jesting, though. I'll ask him, then.

Glockman99,

The 730 was my first Benchmade. Careful. They're highly addictive.
