The Danish government did it! They propose a new law for a total prohibition of carrying any knives!!!
that mean it will be soon illegal to have a SAK in your pocket in Denmark!:barf:

Don't take it sitting down, you and other people better start writing letters and you need to hit the streets and demonstrate.

I wish it was possible to do in denmark...but people her take it very passively...as when they came with anti-guns laws, everybody talk and talk but nobody make something...
Unfortunately the politicians won't listen, this new "anti- knives" laws are asked by the Police...
Nobody in the knife comunity did something when they prohibed the "one hand opening knives" so basicaly you can not possese a SPYDERCO or a Benchmade folder in Denmark...
We just had a sade episode on the Forum...the customs services just took away a Sebenza from Carl recently...This is Denmark...

Oh man...that's horrible news! Are there any loopholes....any at all? Do they specify only steel knives or anything like that?

Have they said what the penalties are if your caught carrying a pocket knife.....fines and/or jail time?

Mike

Hi mike!
unfortunately there is no hole...the law now say Folder only max 2.75". one hand prohibed.
The new law say NOTHING as soon as you leave your home, not even in a purse! And after they talk about human rights???They even have the control of what you can have in your pockets!!!

Howdy Olivier,

That's sad, it really is. I am 43 years old and have carried a knife of some kind every day since I was 9 years old. I would be lost without one, it's my "urban" survival tool. Just simple things like cutting string, boxes, opening envelopes basically my cutting tasks....and of course people asking to borrow it.

I wonder......could you somehow modify a pair of scissors so that the average person couldn't readily tell it was also a knife? There has just got to be a different way at looking at this to possibly get around it.

Mike

hope this doesnt spread to norway. What will hunters do when they shoot animals and need to skin em? OR does the anti gun laws include all firearms? Another thing, are than police officers allowed to have knives? What if someone is trapped in a burning car and the seat belt wont budge.

I sympathize with you Oliver. Sounds like your government is scared of its citizens. But I guess now that they've pretty much outlawed all tools for self-defense then there will be no more crime, right?  :barf:

If it makes you feel any better, we have the same problems in the U.S., especially where I live in California.

Fight back.

for hunting? nobody said a thing when they prohibed the lead for shotshells!!! Yes ...in Denmark you can not hunt with lead in your shotshells...

That law is a big crock of bed pissing BULLshit. Who the hell cooks up these crazy ideas?? Talk about oppression in the name of 'protection'!

MadAxeMan...
I agree with you.....don't even get me started! My blood pressure sky rockets when I think about dumb assed crap like that. You could kill me from the safety of your keyboard.

AAAARRRRRRRGGH!!!!!! Too late, better call 911......too late again, I'm dead now.

Mike

Our dear Justice minister just made 2 new laws!
1 -Total prohibition of carry ANY type of knives on the street.
2 -Give the right to the police to empty the pocket of anyone they want!

yes people you read it right! We're in a Democratic country in 2003! Not in russia for 50 years ago!
She say directly she propose this 2 new law to remove "unlegal knives" from the street!

Let me get this right...In Denmark it's legal to use Heroin, but it's illegal to carry a plain-edge FRN Spyderco Delica???

Man, that sucks.

Fight it with anything you can. Of course, Canadians are almost as passive - so I know your frustrations first-hand. :(

Unfortunately its not just Denmark where this type of crazy "thinking" from politicians exists. So called "gun control" in Oz is in much the same position. Apparently if you makes guns, (and knives), illegal then criminals won't have them!

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much that can be done about it.

:(

You'd think that a Scandinavian country would understand the usefulness and need for knives. The reat of the world needs to take note of this...Once it happens in one place, another will try to follow.

Paul

Hi Dann!
as you said in Denmark you can use heroin but can't go with a Delica!
The best of it when speaking about double moral is that this minister don't propose to prohibit "pædofil associations" (wich are LEGAL in Denmark)...but go with a SAK will soon be a crime...

What if someone is trapped in a burning car and the seat belt wont budge.

Denmark has that covered too. They're going to pass another complimentary law against car accidents. No more car accidents; they're now illegal. So, that takes care of that problem.

Here in America, we have a saying, "**** happens." And, if you outlaw ****, it will still happen. Outlawing knives will not stop crime any more than outlawing car accidents will stop them from happening. The relationship? Well, if you outlaw car accidents and carrying knives, the outlaws will still carry knives and commit crimes with them, and drives will still have accidents. But, when those car accidents happen, there's going to be a significantly higher chance that nobody will have a knife to rescue those trapped inside.

This is just the logical conclusion of the worldwide trend. Denmark is the 1st, but won't be the last. Lockbacks are already illegal in some countrys, as are 1 hand openers. They take a little here, a little there. Eventually you wind up in Denmark.
