I don't know. That doesn't look so bad to me, but then I consider such minor damage fair wear and tear. It's hard to tell for sure, but my edge looks as thin and has chopped without damage so far. I will take mine out today and do some chopping and see what happens. It did fine last time.
Man, I never got that technical, Peter. I have not measured any angles. I just "eyeball" it and do what seems right for each blade free hand.
That was from 3 hits, I stopped after that.![]()
Oh, well I guess it was too thin, Ankerson. I thought this was after a longer chopping session. All edges suffer some damage when chopping, even the factory one. After I get back from running an errand, I will go out to my chopping area today and chop with a factory fresh BWM and my thinned out convex one and photograph the edges. We will see what happens.
I think a blanket statement about thin INFI edges is too general.
Busse adjusts the heat treat based on several factors I am sure.
An example would be the BAD being HT to 62RC to toughen the thin edge:thumbup:
Actually, increasing the Rockwell Hardness makes the blade and edge less tough, (less likely to roll) and more brittle, (more likely to chip or break). The BAD was made as a thin slicer, not the usual hard use Busse blade, so I think that the hardness was increased to allow it to keep a fine edge for a longer period. IIRC, Jerry stated the the Boney Active Duty, at about 1/8" BT, wouldn't take the "abuse" that a standard or a Heavy Active Duty would withstand.
I can't figure out how to get copy the page here or include the link but if you search for " How different is the Boney Active Duty?", written by Jerry himself, you'll see what I mean.
Pete
VERY Different ! ! ! !
Here's a spine shot of this little 1/8" thick, slicing demon next to it's well fed brother, a Combat Grade Active Duty!!!!
The BADs are mission specific designed to be wicked slicers!
We have bumped the hardness on these to 60-62 RC for better wear resistance when cutting softer materials and in order to better support the extra fine point and edge. . .. . .
These are, by far, the thinnest ground EDC blades to ever leave the Busse Shop!!! The edge of the primary bevel is ground down to .012" - .015" prior to sharpening and the distal taper extends nearly the full length of the cutting edge!!!
The tips are VERY, VERY fine and are not designed for prying or heavy abuse. . . . No worries though. If you find yourself in a precarious situation and need to abuse the tar out of your BAD, or pry with it, you are still covered by our warranty. . .
You asked for it. . . and you got it! . . .
These are a Busse Company Store exclusive so stay tuned for Skunk to get sober enough to post them on the BCS website!!!!
Let's Drink!!!

I used to see other people do this, quote from another thread, and wondered how to do that. It finally hit me:
open another window, go to that post you need.
hit the quote icon
in the reply box, highlight the entire text, including the codes. Then copy it.
Paste into the reply box in the destination thread.
there may be another way to accomplish that, but this works for me.

I think I must have done that wrong twice in a row. Because it looks like Jerry quoted this. But I think I see now how it is done. I am just thinking about how much work those threads.
Yeah like I was saying, I messed up thinning out the edge too much, I know it will be good to go now.![]()
Your post makes me wonder if I have gone too far as well. Only one way to find out! I'll start another "too thin?" thread when I'm done.![]()

Ankerson were those edge measurements you were giving inclusive or per side?
I must be missing the point here, I see no tearing whatsoever in the first pics in the thread. I only see some very minor dents.
When I read that the edge "tore out" that maked me think of real damage.
Glad to see your ying and yang are back in order.
