The Boker Personal, with a titanium handle and blade, although I don't know about their claims "it is said to kill any germs which contact it" which sounds like BS to me. But other than that it seems to be a cool little knife.

Thanks.

titanium blades in general are not nearly as functional as even 420 steel. They just don't hold & keep an edge very well, thus when BM made a titanium-bladed knife they added tungsten to the edge for more practicality. It works ok as a non-magnetic last-ditch shiv, but for pocket utility I wouldn't choose it.

What fishface said is true from what I understand. I was talking with Pat Crawford at the last NYCKS and he told me the same thing basically. Titanium isn't really hard enough to make a good blade, it won't take an edge as good as even a cheaper steel, and then won't hold it.

You can find many other knives for abour $100 that would be much better, unless of course you happen to need something that specialized. Ti knives are really for a very specialized purpose, such as underwater mine removal. Unless you need a Ti knife for a specific purpose look at other options.

"It is said" is a CS way to claim a characteristic (That is not really present.) without having to back it up when the customer finds out it's a scam. It belongs on fleaBay along with "reputed," "Could be . . . ," "I think it's . . . ," "Looks like . . . ," and "Someone told me that . . . ."

Hold on, folks.
I don't know exactly what they use,
but it's a titanium alloy....
Better than just Ti,
how good it is, I honestly don't know.

I get their catalog and I've often wondered about that knife myself. I wonder what it is that causes the germs to die? Could make a cool little kitchen utility knife.

Somebody should buy one and pass it around.

You dont need that knife to kill every germ that it comes in contact with, just coat youur knives in that disinfecting soap we all use

That's OK. I sterilize mine with a cigarette lighter before I perform surgery with it. :D

Some "germs" (ie certain bacteria) don't like certain metals and either die or die off (growth is inhibited). Gold, Silver, & Copper have this effect on various microscopic critters.

A quick Google Search for Titanium and bactera indicates Titanium is now in that catagory of metal. Boker and others are using it for cookware from the looks of it.

It's certainly pretty looking. I figure that as long as fit and finish is good with these small folders edge holding really isn't important at all. Something like that I'd keep for formal occasions when my regular carry knives just wouldnt look proper. For knives like that titanium and stainless steel are great, as you need not worry about corrosion, and it won't cut anything harder than the occasional bit of string or fingernail. I've thought about getting one of these little folders since I first saw on in person, the blade finish is a real eye catcher.

Yoda's answer is the correct one.
Ti does kill the germs, especially the sintered variety of Ti,which is what we use.
The personal was a special edition, and was not intended for EDC use, although I do have one.Sharpening Ti is a continous process.
If you have any more questions, please post them in the Boker forum here at BFC.
Thank you,
TJT

Just a bit of reality, I've write ups in AG catalog that don't quite fully represent things. I'm reminded of the laser cut serrations on those cheapie knives, "doesn't hang up like regular serrations", true, but the "not for fiberous materials" was left out.

So if you wondering about a description in the AG catalog, you should take it up with AG. I'll take a guess that that's is nothing but sales talk. It might work as described, but to actually test this knife under lab conditions would be costly and I doubt they would go to that length.

AGR is an old respected knife maker. But he's also a very slick salesman. There's always a lot of truth in his catalogs, it makes a nice wrapper for the seductive ad copy. Don't underestimate people from Arkansas, they can be just as slick as people from NewYorkCity. :)

Great. Then step up and guarantee that the knife is made of a material that will kill germs.
.
IMO, that's going a bit far. (sarcastically understated)
Let's say for example that while cutting someone with AIDS out of a seatbelt, you nick him and get some blood on the knife.
Then a couple minutes you cut yourself. Are you going to get AIDS? Probably.
Why? because the germ-killing effect is not instantaneous,
AND not only that, it's almost certain that not all of the virus has actually come in contact with the blade, they may be floating at the top of a droplet of blood on the Blade.
Be smart!

I've thought about getting that knife as well, not for it's "germ killing" ability, but because it looks cool, and appeals to the asthetic side of me. Of course, I'd never put it to hard use, but, again, it just looks cool. and that's just as high a selling point for me as practicality. I don't actually think the Titanium card knife I have in my wallet is particularly useful, or that the Titanium key-rings are better than steel, I just like the idea.:D

If you are looking for a knife in that size that would make a good EDC, I'd recommend the Benchmade 210. Perfect size, and S30V blade, as well. But if the coolness is a factor, go for it. It's a limited production knife that very few people will recognize, and will get you some "oohs!" and "aahs!"

I think this knife has Titanium crystals on the blade to get the look. I think the blade is ti also.
