This knife Really Scares Me !!!

Yeah, but can you throw it through a tree?

I know you are only messin bro but some actually think that TOPS recommend fastening it to a stick and throwing it but this is actually untrue. They do show how you can las it to a stick but stress that it should never be thrown and is just to be used as a thrusting weapon !

This actually reminds me of something else I was going to mention and that is the tip of the knife. When I stuck it into a couple of trees for the compulsary tree pics it stuck so deep that I had a hard time pulling it back out ! They do say it was designed so that the tip can be used to drill into wood to make fire-boards etc, I have not tried this yet but I'm pretty sure it will perform well at this also !

Now, I would've thought that, had HornDog a knife he wasn't pleased with, it would've come first to me! I'm disappointed.....but happy you got it PitManDog! ((( :D )))

There was a similar post a few days ago asking about the effectiveness of the TB Tracker and nearly everybody dogged it pretty badly. It's good to see it's a working tool!

if Tops would get rid of their silly short hollow grinds and go full flat they would have a ton of useful designs imo. too bad really as they have alot of nice designs otherwise.

Right on! I like a lot of their knives, but have the same grind opinion you do!

Great pics pitdog:thumbup:

Those Tops knives always caught my eye.Their marketing techniques where always a turn off for me though(kinda like dark ops & cold steel in a way).
It's good to see them in the wilderness.Looks like you had a lot of fun testing it out.:)

I've been eyeing the Blue Otter for awhile now.I think it's time to giv'er a try;)

Take Care,

Man That Knife Is Ugly:D

Sorry...

But it looks lke it is working well for you bro, and I will never knock a knife that works for a man:thumbup:

Looks like HD pit a wicked edge on that, and I will agree that those look like some great curles you made on that fuzzy.

Congrats on a great score. H.D. that was mighty generous of you. We got some great people around here:thumbup:

For the first time in my life I have in my posession a knife that really scares me !
This is the Tops Tracker that fellow forumite Horn dog has so generously donated to me as he hated it and I have to say I totally love it !!!!!
As soon as I opened the package a smile spread across my face, pictures do not do this knife justice, it's a beast ! I sliced up a post it with ease and then turned it loose on my arm hair, I'm sure the hairs lept off in terror before the knife touched them, man is this crazy sharp !!!!!

Anyways I couldn't wait to take it out today an try it out. First of all let me say that while this knife certainly is very, very sturdy it ain't the dead weight that many would have you believe, in fact I wore it horizontally in the small of my back and was running through parts of the forest and jumping across streams and didn't even notice it being there.

Oh yeah it's mean....

I tried the serrated section at notching a sappling and it worked exactly as intended and cut a very neat notch that would be ideal for making traps and such like, unfortunately the pics came out blurry but there will be others taken soon !

The water is once again flowing at a good rate, love this time of year !!!

The handle on this knife is awesome and permits three grip positions ( I will explain more in another post ) when held in the back most grip this thing chops like a demon and bites real deep into the wood !!!

I know I look a bit serious on this pic but I was worried a sheeple might come along, how'd I explain having this beast with me !!!!

When I got back I decided to try a fuzz stick, now here is the real shock......this knife cut fuzz sticks better and with more precision than any of my other blades !!!!

Actually, that pose kind of reminds me of Lynn Thompson... I'm not telling you where I live!!! :D

hey Pit, i'm on Terra Firma, the mainland, but i'm sure i could figure out how to get to your neck of the woods.....

i was sortof planning on doing this to a tracker someday, but i see that horndog has beat me to it, and it looks like it works as well as i figured it would.

if you thin out and optimize the grinds to take advantage of the blade shape, so that it isn't just a funky shaped knife, then the design features can actually make a positive impact on function...

by the way, nice review and nice pics as always

I got to handle a couple of Dave Beck models. I was pretty impressed at the time, although I never got to try them out. Beat the hell out of it, pitdog.

Doc

I have a Browning model 686 that looks like it was designed by the same maker as this TOPS Tracker...in fact, I assume that the Browning actually was made by TOPS, but I am not certain about the origin. When I first got the 686 a few years ago, it came with a very sharp edge and sported a 1/4 inch stock of 1095. The six inch blade is very wide (2 inches plus) and tough as nails, in fact, it may be the strongest six incher in my collection. Nothing wrong with the 1095, and if I had to pry something, I'd rather have the 686 than my Basic 9. TOPS knives can be excellent tools with the proper edge!

a bit serious........are you kidding ???
You would not have the time to explain yourself to a sheeple.
Norman Bates would run screaming away from you and Maisy

Looking forward to seeing the tracker in action

Pitdog, How does it chop in comparison with other knives in that weight class? I remember reading it's kinda heavy for its size.

I used my new 1" x 42" Delta belt sander. I took off a bunch of steel.

Just staring at the pictures, I think you may have created a 'whole new knife.'

TOPS might want to think about sending a royalty fee your way.

I've received very few factory knives that didn't require a new edge right out of the box. However -- I've never had to go as far as you just did.

It's just a hunk of steel without a good edge.
