This knife Really Scares Me !!!

Pitdog, How does it chop in comparison with other knives in that weight class? I remember reading it's kinda heavy for its size.

Good question. That knife is 1lb 12oz, and the ax I'm currently playing with has a head of 1lb 4oz, although the all up weight is probably about the same. Despite Horn Dog's exemplary regrind I think a dwarf on speed would have a torrid time swinging a baton with the ferocity required to get the dry out of a bit of wood like this as well.

I can't remember how many Trackers I've done regrinds on but when the grind is thinned, they cut very well.

ahhhh but Pit doesn't have just any old WSK! :D

The WSK in the video is a custom by a german knifemaker Jurgen Schanz. His WSKs are very nice and seem to have good effective grind, closer to Horn Dog's than the TOPS version.

If I'm being honest I really like the handle and the carving blade part close to the handle. But the chopping forward blade part that curves up towards the tip doesn't look like an efficient chopper at all.

That's why I would be interested in hearing Pitdog's opinion on chopping performance because now the knife has a good solid grind.

They chop pretty good for a 6" blade. IMO

Great shots Pit! and what a guy HD is, but we knew that ;)
but you know when Vic moves out west that covers one years rent with you! :p

Now, Horn Dog, about that Bear Grylls knife you always wanted to ditch... :D

But seriously, you did a great job on that tracker knife. You definitely improved the grind, that's pretty obvious even though I have to judge it from the pictures.

The Bear Grylls knife may be way overpriced, but it did come shaving sharp. Funny how different people's concept of a survival knife can be. Tom Brown goes with this complex hatchet/draw knife/saw/chopper thing. Bear goes with something more like an ordinary hunting knife. I think I'd go with something like a Busse Sarsquatch.

Here is a knife to scare the Sheeple. It's a KSF Custom Bowie from BRKT. Mike got some "Carbon V" steel from the Camillus sell-off and made 20 bowies-all different. This one has a curly maple coffin handle. Blade is 7.5" long and 5/16" thick at the spine with a razor sharp convex grind.

I've posted it several times before in other threads, but here is a link to download the PDF version of the manual which comes with the TOPS Tracker knife. In it you can see what Pitdog was referencing regarding lashing it to a stick as well as it's other intended uses... http://www.trackertrail.com/trackerknife/TrackerKnifeManual.pdf

Good review, pitdog, and, as always, awesome pics.
