This Made Me Cringe... UK Knife Surrender Bins

No offense tended to the Brits or anything..but I just don't understand the rationality behind how strict they are over there about knives. If anything-just makes their situation worse as the only people giving up their knives are those who would use them for legitimate uses.

Surely they know this..?

I think they forget one of the most basic principles:
"Knives do not kill people! People kill people!"

The reason for a violent crime is never the tool/weapon used, always the individual using it.
So it would make way more sense to work on making our society better and more sociallly fair!

But that would cost lots of work and money, and politicians hunting votes have neither to spare I guess :(

Same nonsense that led to the "new knife laws" here in Germany in 2008.

At least you guys have KnifeRights and Mr. Ritter who fight for your rights, wish we had an organization like this here. So go on and support KnifeRights so that you'll never have to endure the same political stupidity we have!

Do they realize how much time and money they are wasting with this? They're not even really taking anything out of circulation since they were mostly shitty wall hangers and kitchen knives that they still sell in stores! Even if knives were somehow the only thing you could stab someone with, if they are still sold how to they expect to make any actual impact? All that time, effort and money would be better spent helping poorer areas so they don't have to turn to crime in the first place!

Also, I wonder how many of those knives will end up recycled and sold to companies who make more knives out of them?

There is a deep seated anger and hatred that is burning like a wildfire for the people responsible for this. And then you just throw your personal property away because a piece of paper says so. It makes me so so so angry that anything else I say would just be a rant. So I'll leave it at grrrrrrrrrrrrr

If they do this here, like the "gun buybacks", you'll see me at every second hand store, flea market, and rummage sale there is. I'll buy 50 cent junkers I can sell to the Gov, then take that and buy a Benchmade Infidel- the "One" I want but can't afford yet.

First, they got rid of guns, and the crooks now do daylight home break-ins while the owners are home. If the homeowner tries to do anything physical to fight back, the homeowner is brought up on charges.
So they might as well get rid of the knives except plastic ones for peanut-butter and bread.
I thought that fighting Hitler would teach them something about the need for self-defense against the bad guys.

I can't think of much to say on the matter that hasn't already been said. Except for the obvious: better them than us.

Of course what most over there don't realize is just how easy it is to make a very effective shiv out of a piece of mild steel.

The antidote.

Some people feel the need to fight against something and they aren't quite smart enough to think of something worthwhile. You can't have a crusader without a crusade.

I find it interesting how that website has a news section with only examples of knife crimes. Notice that they don't include headlines like "man rescues car crash victim by cutting seatbelt".

"65% of people who carry knives have their weapons used against them."

I kid you not the freaking website says that.

Knife Crime Jargon: "Tool" is listed among them, as what young people refer to them as.

"So here’s some reasons why people carry knives;

For protection, self defense, in case they were ever attacked and needed to protect themselves.
Because they are cheap and easy to get hold of.
Being brought up in a household where carrying a knife is acceptable.
To make themselves feel like a ‘top dog’ on the estate they live on.
To make people ‘respect’ them.
Because they are not able to have a fist fight, so they need a weapon for back-up.
Some people just carry knives for there own mental safety, they like to feel re-assured in their mind that they are safe.
Instilling fear in others.
So that they feel they can push themselves up the social ladder.
Some young children are forced to carry knives for the older gang members, as the police wouldn’t suspect a 7 year old of carrying a knife.
Some people geniunely carry knives to hurt others with no other reason but to injure or maim another person.
Peer pressure."

I don't even know where to begin with the stupidity on that site, it's overwhelming.

It's just anti knife propaganda nonsese from one area in England. That girl was just used as a mouthpiece to get all the terrified handwringing, curtain twitching do gooders doing what they do best. They did nothing to change any situations other than give the frightened people a little something more to be frightened of. It was a few years ago now but it still somehow bobs back up once in a while.
