This must be where the DEKs hang out, eh?

When you need an EDC that will baton a cinder block and then still be able to open your Amazon boxes when you get home…

Kidding aside, the DEK 2 is just such an elegant beast of a knife in such a great carry size. I find myself grabbing it on my way out the door a hell of a lot more than I ever thought I would.

I cook quite a bit, but the wife is the baker in the family. Except on her birthday. Sugar cookies this year by yours truly. She likes them 😅

I'm a bit of a sugar cookie connoisseur, and I really dislike when a sugar cookie gets too done, crunchy and brown on the bottom. Upon initial inspection, yours definitely pass the visual test and look absolutely perfect!! Will need some in hand for final taste verification!!! 🤣🤣

The circled part of the ridge in the pic below is pretty noticeable near the base of my thumb in a hammer grip.
Anyone ever try sanding down that part of the scales? Did it meaningfully affect retention in the stock kydex sheath?

*Not my place, but since nobody has addressed you...... What don't you like? because that area of a knife (on Any knife) isn't one of those places most people complain about..... Usually its in the index finger area, or in the rear, at the upper pommel area digging into a palm.

From the scales I've felt of that model, they aren't sharp.
Could you take a picture with your thumb pressed, and maybe a picture of the indention of it on your thumb? It's not the gimping?

before you sand anything, i'd almost suggest the Opposite, and see if you can make it wider? try to add shims or even washers temporarily to see how that effect your grip? Sometimes I like a wide grip under my thumb, and in the upper palm area. wider sometimes feels like it puts less sharp pressure under an area.

If you like how it feels you can make nicer shims/filler. It's a pretty easy mod

What size are your hands?

I found this area to dig into my hand a bit when holding the knife at rest but I thought it improved in use/when gripped more tightly. I never did sand it down, I prefer the grip on my UF2. I have medium size hands

I meant to comment on this a little while ago but then forgot - my apologies.

I rarely use a hammer grip on this size of knife so I can't speak to it too much. I primarily use a pinch grip or regular grip with my thumb on the spine. When I tested a hammer grip, I didn't notice any discomfort. If it matters as part of the equation, though I don't have Roland-sized mitts, I do have hands on the larger side and the handle is pretty much all but swallowed up in a full fisted grip. In fact, when I first got my DEK1, I thought it too small. However, as I used and handled it more, it grew on me and the versatility in its handle design started to really make itself apparent.

I'd say, use it and use it a lot. Find what works for you and if you need to make some modifications to make it yours, go for it! I imagine you may affect sheath retention a bit depending on how much you sand in that particular area. Easy enough to heat up the kydex and reform though.

See how much further out away from the spine and towards the butt the divot on the DEK projects compared to the BFK?

Here's a grip comparison on both, choked up to the guard, with a bit of removable putty to record the impression.

The only thing contacting the base / side of my thumb on the BFK is the countersunk screw area.

On the DEK the edge of that divot is clearly in contact with my thumb

The UF2 doesn't have a divot for pinch grip at all, so no issues there.

I wear size L gloves.

I appreciate the modify it and see responses, but I'll wait until the new run of EDC which might replace it altogether for my purposes.
