The plan for next weeks edc was my ever loved imperial Barlow, then a pic of a nice peanut made me want to carry the imperial peanut ( ate some peanut butter toast and got over that :D), then a Victorinox picture makes me want to go tinker , and now the Buck 110 gets brought up multiple times in a thread making me want to carry my buck 110 and any time someone brings up the 110 I just have to go and handle mine for a minute.
I've tried the daily rotation thing and just couldn't be satisfied with only a days use of a knife , and I just can't carry a bunch of knives simply because you guys make me want to carry them.
I can go fixed and pocket folder + my vic classic, but don't want to always edc a fixed blade otherwise I'd be tempted to swap folders throughout the week. Plus I've got a few modern blades to edc once in a while.
I still plan on going with my imperial Barlow next week, but I swear sometimes you guys really make it hard for me to settle on what knife to carry for the week :(
Many of you have some first rate knife collections and take such great pictures of them that I really do enjoy it, but that's only until they start affecting my knife carry decision :D

Yes...it is tough. Despite my recent "the one" thread, I find that most days I have multiple knives with me, and deciding which ones to carry is hard to do. Then there is the knife buying...whew...my bank account hates that part!

Obviously you have to carry them in shifts. Morning, afternoon, evening and then nightstand for the night shift. :D

Man do I empathize with your dilemma. There are neither enough pockets nor days of the week to carry everything that ought to be carried.

Take a break from the forum and other Internet knife content for a week or two. Just carry and use your knives when needed. See if you have any epiphanies.

Buck 110 on the belt.
SAK and Barlow (and/or Canoe and/or Stockman and/or Peanut) in the front pocket(s).
You could even put your Opinel No. 8 (and/or Sodbuster) in the back pocket with your wallet, too.
7 or 9 is not "too many" to carry. :)

I had the same issue so now I carry 3-4 at a time.
1. A modern OHO - a Spyderco usually
2. A Barlow in my watch-pocket in jeans
3. A Trapper or SAK Tinker in back pocket
4. Kershaw Cinder on Keyring every day

I've done that, and the result is a little disconcerting. When I stay away from the forums, my desire for knives goes way down, and I'm happy to just have a knife in my pocket. Just one of my old standbys. The more days I stay away from forums, the less I want to get more knives. My first big downsize was after I stopped reading knife magazines, gun magazines, and the survivalist/prepper magazines. After a while of not even looking at a gun magazine, I looked at wall the stuff I had accumulated, and had a shocked feeling of "what they hell was I thinking!"

I'm not smart enough to know or explain what psychological factors are at work here, but I know on a gut level that the forums encourage more buying for some behavioral reason that is all about the money. Now that I'm not on the forums as much as I used to be, my pocket knife collection is down to about a half dozen and they all fit in a unused tobacco pouch. Now I just drop a knife in my pocket and go. That knife may be carried for days without change, unless I need a specific knife for the tool choices. Like a SAK instead of a stockman if I'm going to need a screw driver or awl.

I'm sure the inventors/owners of forums have done their psyche homework on human behavior. And companies like GEC make a ton of money off it.

I know for a fact that I have gotten WAY MORE INTERESTED in knives because of reading and participating on this forum. A knife collection of about a half dozen is a good size if you're using them. The thing about a SAK is that you don't know when you're going to need one of the tools other than the blade. Hence, you can get by quite nicely with a SAK that you are comfortable using for a multitude of tasks, yep... everyday.

I do not intentionally rotate knives that I carry. I choose to carry what appeals to me based on my normal usage and preferences. The SAK works, but I like other traditionals as well. Toss in a modern or two now and then. What I buy has some relationship to what I carry, but not always, and certainly I tend to go with my old favorites. My advice, carry what you like and don't worry about all the other knives that interest you. But buy something occasionally just to keep you in the game.

Last week I tried to keep track and alternate cutting tasks ( where appropriate ) between my imperial h6 and imperial peanut and that worked out pretty well , but with 3 knives or more I'm not so sure I'd be able to keep track very well. I just may have to get a head start on my Barlow this weekend and give it a try with 3 knives.
