nice sheath you made there Psy. Your getting pretty good at that.....I have about 15+ fixed blades I need sheaths for and figure that I should probably learn to stitch some leather and/or bend some kydex soon.

A XJ is a damn good vehicle. Id buy another one in a heartbeat for a EDD.

Moved up to a Hemi. Does great off road, but will still do 100+ by the time I reach the top of the entrance ramp! :D

We used to have a 5.7 Hemi grand Cherokee. It was a nice car but got traded for a BMW X5.

so a bought a CS Trail Hawk on that big river website and it came in today. Fresh out of the box the axe head has looseness/bit play. Should i be worried it's not a very snug fit? is this common?

Yes. However, if you take the set screw out and ram it up farther on the shaft it should take out a bit of the wiggle.

Tomahawks are made to designed to come off the handle. They are not like axes.

Well, that makes sense, but i feel it would just drop straight off the haft if it didnt come with the head pinned on essentially. It surely should be THAT loose, should it? I'd prefer it to be a bit snugger of a fit.

EDIT

Ok, thanks. Thats what i think im gonna do.

I would sand the handle smooth and then coat/soak in some Boiling Linseed, Teek or Tung oil.

yep, i just took the bit off. Thats what im lookin at. Definitely some DIY needed to get this snugged up

Alright, thanks! I'm gonna have some fun modding this little guy up haha

They are fun. I use Tung oil from the hardware store on every single axe handle. I also soak the wedge in it before driving it in.

Tomahawks are designed with the end of the haft wider than the rest of it so that the centripital force from the hawk being swung causes the head to become tighter.

Thanks for the tip. Yea, i just looked through that thread you linked, thanks again, that was perfect. Looks like some sandpaper and some elbow grease are the answers to my problem. Ill have to swing by my local store after work tomorrow for the oil

yea that makes sense, but with the head pinned to the haft, it seems to defeat the purpose on the trail hawk .

The prevailing theory is that that was a design feature added by the legal team.

Hahah gotcha. Good to know I'm not the only one baffled.

All in all, I'm lookin to get WAY more than my money's worth on this little hawk, lookin forward to putting it on the bench tomorrow and bringing it up to par with some TLC.
