Go Vols! I came this close to putting orange G10 scales on that BK-5 :D But that figured curly redwood just spoke to me... actually, it whispered like a seductress... wild as a mink but sweet as soda pop... ;)

The Beckerheads are one thing... Mr. Becker himself is another. It's just a tiny bit intimidating to take a perfectly good knife, foul it all up and bring to The Man's house and see if he likes it

Great choice! Its a beautiful piece thats for sure!

Is Mr Fisk going to be there this time? That would be something. :D
It'd be fun to see the sweat pouring off of you when you hand it to those two. Knowing your work, they will approve but...:D

Not that I know of. I've had the pleasure of examining Mr. Fisk's knives several times and bending his ear a couple times at shows... he was very friendly and willing to share his expertise.

My wife still teases me because when I met Jerry the first time, I was completely star-struck.

It's like meeting a rockstar on the level of John Lennon or Keith Richards, and they shake your hand and look you in the eye, and encourage you to keep getting better.

Mr. Fisk was cool as a polar bear's ass, and despite the fact that no one knows me from Adam, he and Mrs. Fisk were incredibly friendly and warm to me and Angie.

I am already sweating bullets to - again - put my work in front of the Beckerheads and especially Ethan. Last spring the knife I put up took something like 8th place in their challenge. The seven knives that placed above mine, truly were better, for various reasons, and I learned a lot.

Moose and the other judges were not playing favorites, they really got deep into it. That's awesome, and it's good for makers and clients/consumers alike.

Those BeckerHead cats are not fooling around. Their standards are extremely high. They do not pull punches.

So, I'm assuming that you thinned down the edge and it is now SHARP!!! They are very good cutters out of the box. I imagine that with a little help they are ridiculous. I'm just betting you gave it that little bit of help.

I've not yet put a true THK edge on this rascal. I only convexed and cleaned it up a little bit. It'll cut and shave. ;)

The BK-5 is my current favorite of the Ka-Bar/Becker models, because it is ground to cut. It's definitely ground better than most factory knives for cutting/slicing performance.

It's not a chopper, and it doesn't pretend to be one. It's a slicer and a slasher.

The new prototype made it back from the Gathering with no damage. I haven't sharpened it yet, and it got a pretty good workout batonning and whittling red oak for the firepits. Still doing just fine for a little food-prep work.

Mmmm fresh sweet/hot pepper sauce coming soon! :)

The knife looks great and the cuttings are making me hungry.
I love the way the handle turned out too by the way.
