Thomas Jefferson

Always interesting to read posts like this  Gives you the impetus to read around the topic and learn more ... and whilst we can do this from a key board ... it makes you appreciate his need for "books" ... lol ... makes you wonder how he had the time to do all he did ... and read his liberary ...

It also makes you aware that the answers to present and future problems can be found in the clear thinking of those "great intellects" of the past ...

I doubt Jefferson would be happy with the way things are now ... both in the USA and over here in the UK ... we are way off the beaten path of what he saw as good government.

In modern times the nearest I can see to government upholding his ideals is Switzerland. Small efficient local government with strong beliefs in the rights of the citizen to bear arms and govern their own destinies. When taxes and laws are controlled in smaller areas ( like the Cantons of Switzerland ) you get to see something that you can believe in and which makes a lot more sense.

Sadly over here we seem to have lost the benefit of a democracy ... we have to do what the government says ... we no longer seem able to elect them to do what we want ...

So what does this mean, skunk? A $20 busse??.... Toothpick? LOL.. That was a great read, so many things are so wrong now compared to his time.

I don't know if this is as true as many people believe it to be. I feel like things have generally been the same throughout history. People always have something to gripe about because there's always strife in this world, so who's to say they had such a great time back then. We'll never really know. Regardless, it's good to keep ideals within view.

Oh, I thought you were personally stating as 'fact' those things which you stated about the Bible.

So you now recant and place that as a paraphrase of a man who died many years ago.

Still :thumbdn: .

Recant? i'm not recanting anything. The bible is magic and fairy tales, just like the koran or harry potter.

That's what i believe. Clearly Thomas Jefferson didn't think the magic was beneficial, so he took it out.

Your belief and disbelief doesn't make the Bible untrue, or the other things you indicated.

Isaiah 40:6-8
Psalm 119:89

Thomas Jefferson was brilliant, a great founding father of our country with monumental understandings and statements of such regarding government, personal rights & freedoms, and human tendencies.

Another fact. TJ did not like the Native Americans.
But I'm not hating on him.

That's enough politics and religion for me... Nothing good ever comes from talking about that stuff. People tend to get angry.

Skunk, thanks for a good read :)

Just as your belief doesn't make it true..... Ahhhhh the wonderful world of choices!

OMBTL...

You are absolutely right.

It was true before I was born and will be true long after I am gone. I have no power over it being truth or not, neither by my words, my pen, my iPod, the internet, nor by the Busse in my pocket or pack, on my belt or in my ruck, or in my right hand. :)

I see a patriots blade coming out in red white and blue G10 micarta.
with an American Flag engraved on the blade :)

I would so buy that... I can see that in a frame on my mantle...

Patriot INFI... there's poetry in that idea

I believe the turkey would have made a fine national bird, but the Bald Eagle is so beautiful.

We couldn't make the turkey the national bird... you're not supposed to eat the symbol of your national sovereignty, and i loves me a turkey sammich, especially with bacon!

You learn something new about people on here all the time. I did'nt know you were a Native American mate ... much respect from across the pond

Thanks Broh.^
It takes awhile sometimes but the Truth does eventually come out.

Back to knives - this is one that Thomas Jefferson carried and is currently on display at his home here in Virginia. Thought you might enjoy a look at a Founding Father's EDC. Comments?

Comment? HaHa I don't know what half that stuff is used for on that knife.

Another example of how even great men are not perfect and will let you down. Something I am realizing more and more as I get older.

Maybe there was a bit of a "trade" going on with TJ and Victorinox ... he squared away their political and governmental structure and they sent him a prototype SAK ? :D

Seriously though ... looks like the man's practicality was reflected in his taste for an early "multi-tool" pocket knife ... I bet knives as well made as that were not common back then ... makes you wonder what it has done ?
