Those favorite knives that we’ve lost

I’ve lost few . Every single knife from my childhood and few in adulthood . Probably less than dozen altogether. Currently it’s a XXera 6347 in some nice redbone that’s gone missing :(

Carried this SAK Executive 5 days a week for nearly 3 years before losing it on a jobsite one day along with the brass Maratac Peanut lighter that was attached to it. 😞 Wound up getting a replacement a couple years later, but I really miss that first one (and my lighter).

I was gifted this knife by Will Power around my first Christmas on the forum and I carried it pretty much all the time. Then one summer I was wearing shorts that had kind of weird pockets and while I was driving, the knife slipped out and got swallowed by the car seat. At first I thought it had fallen out of the car somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Then after about a year it was really bugging me and I thoroughly checked the car seat crack and found it again. Now I'm more careful about where I take it. Lesson learned, I guess.

I would have turned over Heaven and Earth to re-find that beauty.

Maybe I've worded it wrong ... I was really sad about the loss but figured it fell out on the street and someone picked it up while I was taking my stuff indoors from the parking lot. That's because I checked the seat first and looked underneath it and everything, but I couldn't feel it anywhere. Good thing I didn't sell the car in the mean time, imagine that!

No bail on those knives, so a lanyard (not a fob) is out of the queston.
I'd suggest removing the clip and carry loose in the bottom of your pocket.
In over 60 years of carryng a pocket knife, I've never lost one that was loose in my pocket. Only knife I ever lost was clipped to my pocket while riding my bicycle.
(the knives that are loose in the bottom of my pocket don't fall out during the same activity.)

If you have to clip the knife, clip it to the inside of your strong side boot, and don't tuck your pant legs into your boots.

Last favorite I lost was a 6 blade yellow handle Rough Rider stockman about 3 or 4 years ago, while bicycling. :(
I remember using it at Arby's to cut the Jalapeno Poppers, and putting it in my pocket before I left. It must have fallen out during the 5 mile ride home. When I discovered it was missing, I back-tracked to the Arby's, but to no avail. I even went in and asked if it was in the lost and found.
I don't remember the RR number anymore.

Naturally it is out of production, so no chance of replacing it. I haven't seen one on the evil bay, or any other site that sells/has used knives.

SMKW told me there are no plans to bring it back with yellow or any other covers. :(

If/when I used my bicycle or adult trike since, my knives go into one of the bike bags.
Your posts seem to contradict themselves.

Earlier post regarding clips, I wasn't thinking of the RR I'd lost.
I try not to think of it much. Too depressing.
That’s not exactly what you said. August of this year you claimed to have never lost one in 60 years loose in your pocket but now you remember losing one a few years ago. And the pocket clip had nothing to do with it.

Whoooy! Is it just me or things are a bit abrasive on the forums of late?

I've lost knives before (it must have been a while a go) but I think it was an el cheapo...

Trying to remember when I lost my knife last time...I've had a couple that I've misplaced before but found them again...

I've been fortunate to have lost only 2 knives in my 40+ years of collecting/hoarding knives. The first was a United Boker 2-blade congress pen in smooth blue bone. It had a cracked bolster from the factory and I think my car seat might have eaten it. Because of the cracked bolster, I wasn't overly concerned about losing it.

The second is the one I miss the most. It was a Bruckmann slim pen in genuine horn with an oval shield. This was an older Bruckmann with the black polished blades. Wonderful, light knife that cut like a laser. Near as I can tell, it must have fallen from my pocket when pulling out my car keys as I ran across a grass parking lot during a rain storm. Never would have heard it hit the grass. I don't have a photo, but here is a very similar knife from an old Bruckmann catalog.

Car/truck seats or worse train seats cos you can't go back and search them  really are a kind of Bermuda Triangle for knives. Do they have an EVIL MAGNETIC force???o_O

I ISKRA I'm glad your diligence paid off Žan :)

I lost the first real knife I ever bought with my own money, a SAK Tinker from Abercrombie & Fitch back in the late 80s (yes, they used to sell real outdoors gear back in the day!) Thing is, I know it's around somewhere but between numerous cross-country moves and my folks moving multiple times the number of places it could be is, well, numerous. I thought I landed it a few years ago when my dad gave me my old tackle box and I opened it to be greeted with the sight of a shiny red SAK but sadly it was an old Explorer. I figure it'll turn up in a box some day along with my missing ski boots.

I'm happy for you that you have a perfect memory. I'mll remove my post

That’s kinda pointless since I quoted it. But hey it’s ok. I’m just trying to keep it all straight.
Edited to add that I don’t have a perfect memory. I just don’t intentionally post things that aren’t true. That way I don’t have to worry about keeping my big windy stories straight.

First really lost knife for me was a Buck 112, dropped over the side of a Coast Guard cutter off the coast of Alaska back in 1980. I was working on the webbing for the drop down cages where we stood ready with charged hoses and foam suppressant during helo ops. A little fumble and watched in horror as the knife tumbled into the deep dark sea.

Another heartbreaker was realizing I had lost my Case Swayback Jack on a North Carolina beach on the outer banks. I had been flying my kites and had cut a swivel from a line to replace the swivel, so I knew the knife was with me on that beach. Later on, I went for the knife and there was nothing in my pocket! Oh, the horror... I had written that one off for good, believing that I had done a thorough search of the car, my kite bags, my string bag...about eight years, maybe more passed. This summer I was packing for a weekend trip, and was inspecting the kites I wanted to bring, and decided to really go through my string, tail, streamer bag...Ha Ha! Wrapped up in a rolled up streamer this little fella dropped to the floor. It was crusted with sal;t crystals and had sand in the well, action seemed dead, dead dead, almost rusted shut.

Gave it a warm soapy bath, WD40 soak, and thoroughly de tarnished with Never Dull. A little oil and some flexing and she is as good as new.

Don't really count my Cub Scout knife as lost, it got passed down to one of three younger brothers when I got a Boy Scout Knife - one of them, or their heirs, may still have it. My BSA pocketknife I cannot say where it went or when, but the loss in 2005 of my roughly 20 year EDC Old Timer 108OT turned me from a casual knife accumulator into a full blow knife hoarder! That sad loss was very costly if you add up the several hundred knives I've bought in the last 16 years. It started with me discovering that the Schrade's were no longer American made when I went to buy a replacement for my lost 108OT; being in the building materials business, I started out by buying all the remaining Schrade USA pocketknives I could find still in stock in displays at my customers showrooms (whether I really liked the pattern or not). I branched into Case Knives too (I was already a confirmed Buck Knives owner and accumulator). I have bought a couple of the USA made 108OT's and recently the Uncle Henry version (807UH) - I had also owned and lost one of those, but it didn't effect me the way losing the 108OT did. Boy, I sure wish I hadn't lost that knife in 2005 - but then I wouldn't know you gents (and ladies). OH
