Thoughts on a Contego?

I have a comboedge 810 in m4. Great knife but I would recommend the plain edge. The teeth on my combo haven't held up nearly as well as those on my other benchmades.

The Contego is too big for me. Too big and the scales are too rough. The Contego is like a Cold Steel knife.

I love my rift, and tried the Contego for that reason. I wanted to like it, but for me it was just too big and for me I found the handle shape was unforgiving of multiple grip positions, but it really excelled with gloved used. Also since you mentioned the office, while in my office (your office environment and knife friendliness may vary widely) no one has said anything about my rift Rift, I guarantee people would take notice if I pulled out a Contego. I also think in it's native state it would tear up pockets, but the sharp G10 ridges are easily smoothed a bit with sandpaper so that's not a big issue.

I also have short fat fingers, and for me the arc on the thumb stud was a stretch, I never felt, with the natural grip location my hand went to, that I had good control of the thumb stud, it's the first knife I've had that I've noticed that on where I felt like the blade could get away from me so easily while opening.

It's hard to beat the 940 for a lot of blade in a thin/light pocket friendly package.

I just got the KW special edition in today. Sharp as a razor. Blade well centered. Love the look of the black and blue G10.
That said, I'm not sure I really like the shape of the handle. The finger choils are obviously cut for two fingers in the first choil and two fingers in the 2nd choil. Does not feel nearly as comfortable as it would have been if it had choils for individual fingers instead of two fingers. This would be a good knife if you were wearing heavy leather gloves or maybe if you had hands like a brick mason.
I kept going back and forth between holding the Contego and my Benchmade 300-1 which is also black and blue G10 and thinking wow, the 300-1 fits my hand live a glove, I wish the Contego fit my hand like the 300-1.

I agree with you to a point. After I used 100 grit sandpaper to grindoff G-10 ridges, it become less irritating to my bare hands. Yes, it is rather large handle, but it can be "tamed" a bit by grind down a bit.
