Thoughts on TOPS fixed blades

I do not own any---yet, but i love em. There is one that has me reaching for the phone---almost. It seems most either love em or hate em.

i've taken a shine to a few of their designed but lack of any info is making me hesitant. in what way are they supposedly overpriced?

Great hard-use knives. I own three of them. IMO their not very expensive, most are under $200 in fact. Just check out the Tops website, I believe there is a good deal of info out there from what I've read. Also, all made in the USA.

Many say they are over priced for the materials used. My brother and I both have small TOPS blades and they are high quality but on average TOPS are overly thick and not real practical. It depends on what your looking at though, some of their blades will perform and others are prybars with sharp edges.

What ones were you looking at?

I only want the one from predators (TOPS Eagle 107c) solely because it was in predators...nice marketing tactic! only thing stopping me is the price, I can get a couple beckers with aftermarket grips for the price of one at retail price.

anyone else cant get on the TOPS website?

With TOPS the 1/4in blades will usually be the prybars and the 3/16in will be the more useful blades. Of the ones you listed the Sierra scout IMO is sweet, looks like a useful design or at least more so than the others.

Thats the Steel Eagle I have the 111a same knife but with a 11in blade.I love it:eek:

Hard use? yeah I think you would be good, TOPS HT of 1095 is excellent the knives in general are tough as nails.

I have a Tops Steel Eagle 105. The quality and craftsmanship is great. The price was a bit too high....

Quality made in Idaho. I have a cochise, it is a fine knife. Probably the only tops knife i will ever buy. basic 1095, quality heat treatment.

I picked up a Tops made for Browning for about $55 dollars 3 years ago. Great knife, very well made, but once I had it reprofiled it became an awesome knife.

I've never had a problem with any Tops knife performance, although they do seem to be a bit overpriced.
