Thoughts on TOPS fixed blades

I have the Baghdad Bullet, the Ranger Bootlegger, the Devils Elbow, and the Street Scapel. Great fit and finish on all four. I've had Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw knives with grind issues on the cutting edge and the upper area of the blade. Four knives is a small sample, but so far I'm impressed with the consistency TOPS has shown.

Yes the blades are thick, only the Street Scaple would shave hair off my arm right out of the bag. But, I carry a TOPS knife as a back up to my cutting knife (BM Stryker, CS XL Voyager, CS Rajah 2, etc.). The TOPS knives make good pry/stab blades if ever needed.

With TOPS and Buck Knives being right next to each other, and are collaborating on at least one knife I own... I will assume their heat treatment is pretty good. My 2¢.

Well, I can digest the price but Not shitty cutting edge geometry (NO)! I been there already and I won't do it anymore.

I just purchased two Tops Knives, the Steel Eagle 105HP and Steel Eagle 107C, have not got to use them yet, but like the way they feel, balance and heft. Price was a little high, but I would rather spend the extra on anything made in U.S.A.. will use them for back country treking, backpacking etc.. I saw the 105 being used in the series Man, Woman, Wild on discovery channel. They seemed to use it effectively for a variety of chores and food gathering. I will try to put mine to good use and test them out.

I have since bought a Tops Alaskan Harpoon. I love it. I have not reprofiled the edge yet, i don't see a need to at this time. I think they make a high quality product. I did NOT pay MSRP. I don't see why some seem to despise Tops brand. If you find one you like that they make, shop around & buy it. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy their product. They don't claim to be the best bang for the buck or that any design is the do-all-end-all of knives.

I own about 7-8 TOPS fixed blades...I love them all! They can get a but pricey but shopping around can most times yield a good deal. They sharpen nicely with 1095 H Carbon steel and in most applications, hold an edge well. Built like a brick sh*t house. Prather Bowie was my last purchase...havent had a chance to use it (thank God) as I bought it mainly as a last ditch defensive tool but its comfortable in hand, quick and provides good hand extension. Good luck fellas...keep em sharp!

Just throwing my 2 cents in. I own a TOPS Cochise and have used it for a hunting season thus far. I cleaned 3 deer without any issues. Didn't have to resharpen until afterwards and it just required a few swipes on a steel. It's my go to hunting knife. I highly recommend it.
