Threading the end of hidden tang knives

Karl, I had a thought after my last post that you are probably much more likely to twist off your little stub round tang end by having it too thick when you try to thread it than at any time after that. I know that I did that once early on when trying to thread a very skinny one.

Yes - if you are not careful, you could get your die stuck and then twist it off that way.
I keep a piece of flat stock by my grinder with holes of the correct size drilled in it. If the tang will fit in the hole, it's small enough.

Yeah, I nibble at it with the die and If it starts to get sticky, i will give it a little adjustment with the edge of a belt or a file. Mine aren't on display like yours are, so being a tad ugly is not a big deal as long as they hold. ;)

The proof strength of a grade 2 10-32 screw is almost 1000 pounds.
Tool steel like we use in blades (grade 5?) is more like 1300 pounds.

Sure, but what if the knife handle falls under the wheel of a passing train?

Old thread so let s make it useful again ..... :) here is other way to make thread on tang ....no need to round it .It is better if tang is still rectangle.......
I hope you can read Egyptian hieroglyphs :D thread cutting tool OVER bolt and continue on tang .......

I'm not sure what some of those images are showing, but I agree that there is no need to make the tang round to thread it for a end bolt or acorn nut. All you need is enough threads to get a grip on the bolt/nut.

As I say .............Egyptian hieroglyphs:)
Ok , if i want say M10 thread on tang .Take one M10 bolt with all thread on it and then cut head of bolt and cut slot in middle in thickness of tang.Finish tang end in dimension as thread on bolt and slightly rounded both side where thread would be cut .Put slot of bolt on tang and start threading from bolt down on tang ....Round thread on bolt will help as guide a lot to make thread on rectangular tang ..
I hope this time Macedonian hieroglyphs are easy to understand :)
This bolt is tool for puling out bearings where hammer can t be used but will serve to explain my hieroglyphs :D
Just imagine that nut is thread cutter and that plastic is tang ......
