Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with these kinds of threads. I've seen it in archery mags, fishing mags, hunting mags etc. There are always newbies coming along who want to discuss the same things the not-so-newbies were talking about last year. Ain't nothing wrong with that. But some of us have heard it a 100 times. But what the hell.

So...I thought I'd start a list (for the hell of it):

Here are a few:

Best survival knife
Best camp knife
Mad Dog vs Busse
Should I buy a Sebenza?

The last two, of course, are everyone's favorites.

Anyone want to add to the list?

"the best survival knife is the one you have on you....." yadda yadda yadda. what a wonderful contribution.

I never tire of these threads. I find that these discussions often reinvigorate my passion for the subject.

And sometimes you end up having a different outlook than you did the last time an old thread gets revisited so sometimes it brings back memories of what you thought a knife should be as compared to now. So yes I still find them informative.

I thought I was the only one that got a kick out of the "best survival knife is the one on you..." line.

I guess I don't really know where you are going with this, but it seems a little negative. I get an uneasy feeling that some of the newer members that might not want to ask a "newbee" question after they read this, because they don't want to seem "XXXX". I think you posted this to get some interesting input, but it just might intimidate a few that want to tap into this forum to get some really good info. I worked for years as a mech in a bike shop and had to bite my lip many a time, because of the questions I heard. Now I work for a major company that does computer repair, and now I bite my lip twice, because of these simple question, that I can't believed were asked. I work daily with customers on the retail level, and they are looking to me, and others for this basic info.
I guess I see your post as a thumbing down of new entries, that maybe could take advantage of your knowledge. SSoo, now that I am all wet, what did I mis-understand?

A thread that I have seen alot and also posted is the one about what size knife to carry. I never get tired because my opinion varies. I live in an area (metro St. Louis) with fairly liberal, or at least vague carry laws. I also have to deal with situational carry because of my job in higher education.

Threads about carrying knives for self defense always seem to pop up from time to time also.

Plain VS serrated- have to have my monthly fix of that one And by the way nobody is giving newbies a hard time. It's a pretty standard thing to do a search before asking what should be a question that has likely been asked before.
Some forums flame the hell out of you for posting things which could have been searched before posting.

I knew this would happen. Don't take this wrong, but look at the moderators post, TomW. The question/post/search took them here, and now you want to flame them(or others would) for not researching their question, ?? where ??. That is why they would look here, to get THE answer. I would hope that a question could be submited, and alot of opinions could be expressed, especially from the moderator to help the "newbee" out, he/she is looking for info.
By the way, which is better - shim over or shim under the bucket on a 198X Kawasaki, and why?

New people have to start somewhere.

Maybe you have heard it a hundred times, but it may be new to some one else.

Sometimes you have to payback the patience and good will shown to you when you were new.

Even if you have heard it a hundred times.

Goodness knows people have done that for me.

Let's not forget BM vs MT threads, "what's the strongest lock?", and "what do you use to sharpen your knife?".

The thing I sometimes wonder about is when I see the same thread asked by 2 different people within a few lines of each other. This happened not to long ago with a hollow verses flat grind post. Then 2 days later someone posted basically the same question again. You wonder if these people are reading other threads at all when this happens.

Keith.

"What knife can I carry on an airplane?" or "The Airport security confiscated my (insert knife type)"

"What is the best sharpening system?"

Think a minute
The search mentioned was directed at the threads that are repeatedly posted. Not this one. If you were lead here YOU misunderstood the post.
Try plain VS serrated
