Threads you've heard a hundred times before...

Walt, I can vouch for ats34. It's pretty good steel. You should try it.

My fav, as already mentioned, are the ones where people ask for suggestions of hat knife to buy, and all they say is they'll use it for hiking, maybe unting, and maybe chopping.

Um.... how much $$ have you got? Are you really going to do those activities? Do you take care of your knives? And the questions grow. Intimidating or not, this is a good thread!

By the way, I never tire about the countless threads praising my vast knowledge of all things cutlery and my superb newbie knife making talents!

If you don't like the topic, don't read it, and don't write in sarcastic crap just to make yourself look like the wondergod of knives or of the forums. Maybe you have heard it before. Maybe someone has a new opinion, some new insight, or a new product that others would like to hear about.

A little harmless ribbing ain't a big thing there Sarge, kind of a right of passage I would think.

I took plenty of crap when I first started. Hell I still take crap on a weekly basis. As others have said this isn't www.muppethugs.com.

Hey, I'm all for some harmless ribbing, but when it gets to the point of sarcasm or degrading of a newbie, why make the post? It just makes the poster look like an AH. Don't like it, don't bother with it. There's always someone else out there willing to share info and experience without being a butthead.

Ooo, now I´m lovering my guard. A newbie that is cocky. But here is my contribution (from some automatic forums) :

"I got my first MT today" - hip, hip hooray!

"Anyone here bought a KESTREL?" - Uh, something wrong???

"KESTREL - too small" - Yep, someone (read: ANOTHER one) bought a knife without reading the specs.

Here's my favorite:

"Dontcha wish those newbies would learn how to use search and stop posting their inane little questions here. Everyone knows that only experienced a__h___s should be able start the same old threads."

I like newbies. I be one. They have enthusiasm for knives instead of their own cleverness. Has anyone ever done a search to see how many threads complain about newbie threads?

Knife Knewbies Kneed Love Too!

I'm with you Mike, I don't think anyone should be harassed, or looked down upon. Won't find me talking steel types here for that very reason, you get a lot of purists who will snap you in two. Funny though, all of the actual makers here who I've heard talk about knives seem to be more than willing to help folks along, go figure.

As a somewhat seasoned veteran (I've taken a lot of crap) I tried to interject in another forum to help a newbie. Got my head bit off, and realized that I might have been a little harsh in my first response. Tried to make nicey though and never seemed to get the point across. Whole new breed of newbies round here...

And Woodie, I get the feeling you ain't no newbie...

One thing people are forgetting here is that these forums are for OLDIES as well as NEWBIES, and everyone in between. This thread is largely for OLDIES to get a few things off their chests in jest instead of taking them out ON newbies!!! Thats all this is. If newbies have taken offense, please re-read what i just said and re-read the whole post, and I'm sure you'll understand. I get e-mail occasionally from people and I don't think I have been mean or cynical, and guys like Allen Blade, Mike Cooper, Tom Mayo and others have gotten e-mails from me. I bet Mike Cooper has had people ask him a hundred times how to solder a guard. I think I have asked him about 5 or 6 times! It's all cool. This thread is just about people blowing off a little bit of steam.
