I grit my teeth when I see the above posts appear again and again.
However, I think it is more a matter of HOW the post is presented. If a poster shows (s)he has done some homework, but is unsure of the answer, or is specifically looking for new information (and the last time the subject posted was not last week), then I believe that the post is justified.
When I see a post that asks something like: 'Which steel would be best, and why, in a 3" folder; ATS-34, S5, CPM440V, Nokia S345Xty, or NipponX467?'
Needless to say, I have never heard of some of these steels, and have to look up the elemental composition to even have a clue. In addition, the question is basically unanswerable, as which is 'best' is highly subjective.
When I was a newbie, not that many years ago, I also liked to see my name on a thread. Somewhere near the top, hopefully with a substantive answer, which I usually got from doing some research. It was quite a while before I dared post my first new thread.
