My birthday is in three days, so I'm giving something away then. But I haven't decided what yet. So tell me what you like in a Slipjoint or other traditional design. Tell me why if you want, give a couple of points of view of why. A picture or fifteen of your favourite knives or favourite knife shots is encouraged. Really, post more than "I'm in!!" and you are in!! This is to see who is reading this far!

I like punches, Wharncliffes, speys, long pulls, bolster treatments, and puukos, among other things.....

Oh, by the way- Festerfromnzed is already a winner! As a carry over from last year;)

Good luck to everybody else- the give away is still open!

Happy birthday! I'm in! I like single bladed traditionals.

Hope you have a great birthday Kris. I like good old working knives, nothing fancy, one, two, or three blades (Jacks are my favourite), stag, wood, or bone covers, drop-points are good, lanyard holes are a bonus.

thanks!
i like yellow

this might be my all-time favorite combo

Well, here's what I like about some of my traditionals...

I really like single bladed, honest, cheap working man's knives.
qfyi.jpg

But I can really appreciate -and often use- those slippies with multiple tools...

For some reason, I also love carrying a two-bladed jack. Don't have many, but they get a lot of pocket time.
qkjn.jpg

A lot of these sport clippoint blades. And I just loooove clip points in a small folding knife.
rtim.jpg

But I also have a thing for a nice and thin leaf-shaped blade. Not only in traditionals, but also in modern folders (not pictured).

Those old Ka-bar slippies make me weak in the heart. They just appeal to me. Simple, not the best construction nor steel, but they do the job just fine and are able to introduce you to a lot of patterns for cheap.

I'm pretty much in love with Opinel. Can't say a lot about that. Been that way since childhood, and once you're addicted... You guys know that story ;). Broke a lot of them, but new ones keep finding their way to my drawer and my pockets.

In the end, I just love the history about these guys. It's something a modern folder doesn't have, and the many stories about manufacturers, usage of the different blade styles or knife patterns...it just appeals to me. A lot.

So yeah, there you have it :D

hmm. Neat idea for a gaw. Happy b'day.
I'm mostly in the multi-blade/stockman camp. I do have a weakness for punches.

In spite of my professed multi-blade preference I carry this single blade quite a bit.

Out of all of those, the first is the only one I have left. I've given away all the rest, actually all went to little boys that needed a first knife. The only one I really miss is that silly cheap ee imperial. That little knife got inside me some how. I like jigged bone and equal ends about 3 1/2- 3 3/4 inches long. Now, of to search the bay and drool. Good luck everyone!

My favorite blade shape, far and away, is the wharncliffe. Doesn't matter the knife, modern or traditional, it's just such a graceful and useful design. I like a sheepsfoot too, but it seems a little more utility to me. Swedges and rounded spines are icing on the cake.

I don't have any good pics to show as I believe that I've already shared them at one point or another.

What I'm most interested in trying is a one-armed-bandit/one hand opener/razor, followed by something with a punch/marlin spike or screwdriver. Also, a Barlow.
Yes, I have much to try yet! :D

Happy Birthday!!

I'm a big fan of multiple bladed knives with either jigged bone or wood handle scales.
Oh, and the closed length should be 4" or less for pocket friendliness.
Looking for a nice Stockman in either Ebony or Cocobolo right now.
Thanks for the chance Kris,
Lenny

We have similar taste in knives CLAK, I have many of the same patterns, I'm in, I'll post some pics later, just wanted to save my spot.

Here's a few of my favorite unusual traditionals, I'm fond of unique locks, unusual pattern hybrids, miniatures and anything different.

Here's a unique knife, back in the 60's Imperial used to make pen knives with Ignition Key blanks in place of one blade, it took me years to find one and I did with an uncut GM ignition key blank.

Here's an electricians knife with a built in level for settin' up circut breaker boxes.

I really like knives with two blades, preferably one with a straight edge. I like knives around 3.5" long. I like Congress patterns, and Swaybacks. Heres' one of my favorites.

I'm in, Tom

Thanks for the opportunity, Cuts Like, and congrats on the birthday! I'll play.

What I like most are clip blade mains with straight-edged blades, like Wharncliffes and sheepfoot secondaries. So my favorite patterns are Wharncliffe trappers/jacks and stockmen. Here's a few pics.

Well, I do spend a lot of time here for only having one (non-Sak) slippie trad right now, LOL. I am warming to a Buck-style 3-blade Stockmand patter, or a Canoe with the thicker blades, regardless of manufacture.

KRIS....Well thank you !....I like trapper style knives in carbon....awesome giveaway and happy birthday to you!..............FES
