three dot 110

I'am keeping it in the safe. I have at least two other three dots and a hand of two dots. As you can see I really do like the 440 blade knives.:D:D HL

I hear you 14Bucks, I have a few of both of them two and a few 4 dots... Great knives, for sure... ... ITE

OMG! Something from the early '80's being consided an antique! Jeez, that makes me positively Jurassic! Heck I'm still wearing clothes I bought longer ago than that. :p

Thats why I added "classic" so I didnt insult anyone...including myself:eek:
time flies

Has anyone ever seen a three dot 110 with CHAMPION on the knife, and the sheath? On the sheath it will be where you would normally see BUCK on the flap. HL

I saw a 110 with Champion on the blade at the last weekend's gun show, the guy was busy, walked on by and forgot about it. I saw several 110's in the 45 dollar range and they were way used.

I did pick up a nice no dot for 20 bucks - it needs a new blade but the rest of the knife is 90% +.

three dot? 3 dots?
that rings a bell..
let me see now...
thinking, thinking hard..
some thing is coming..
OH!
to those of you like me that are also amative of the one ten
as many of you know i am a gleaner of 110 trivia... well..
we all know that MR PAUL BOS is the undissipated boss of heat-treating

Have any of you ever wandered what a one ten with a 440C blade
that Boss heat treated would be like?
would such an knife be desideratum to you?

well you dont have to dream..
first the disclamer:
i could be wrong because i lost any reference to hard data..and
is not confirmed from any other buck sources
three dot referencing brings conjecture from my deep subliminal thoughts..

News you can use!!!??

the 1981 three dot 110 blades are from the first year that Paul Bos did the heat treat at Buck!!

so now you know ..
and if you like the full hollow grind vs semi-hollow grind
get the blade of a 111
full hollow or semi hollow grind 440C blade
that is Bos heat treated
what more could you want?

I remember Leroy telling me he (Paul) started w/ Buck in 78 or 79 and it was at his insistence that Chuck invested in the large LN1 holding tank out back of the new plant for cryogenic blade treatment. Something Buck pioneered in 1980. So, yes I agree it was somewhere in and around that time frame. Dang, that guy has 30yrs. w/ Buck. I saw him and we spoke at the 20 yr. reunion. DM

I knew there was a reason why I was starting to use some of my three dots more, and letting the two dots rest for a while.:D Even though I have more two dots.:D:D HL

i had some 3 dot when they come out and loved them
later i had some 4 dot and missed the semi hollow grind and thought
that was why i did not like the 425 as well
but i put a 111 with 3 dots and full hollow grind to work as it had a ugly handle
and it was a fav tell i lost it ...
yep bos and 440C is wonderful
now watch the price in flea markets go up..

It came today and I'm pretty pleased with it. Does the sheath look original to this date knife?

well .... yes...i would say so ...
nice snatch on that one!!!!!
but then what do i know ...
jest the 300 lb bigfoot in the corner here...

Just wondering. there are so many different sheaths out there I wasn't sure.

That would make a good subject for a thread of it's own!

yes that is supper secert data that only the most swarn to sealed lips get to Kow..
but you are right a thread on correct sheaths as sticky would be great..
want to start it or shall i ?

'bout the only contribution I could make is to post photos of all the different variations that I have.

hummm did not ask what you could contrubite..
any thing is some thing and is important..
so what would we want to ask some one to show on a sheath thread?
pict of a NOS NIB buck and what was in the box with it?
i know that at times sheaths were found and
put in boxes long after some thing on them changed..
so it is a open to what is known and not a
this is it or it is not right..
it is the older ones that will be hard to know..
some of the newer one also will be hard to fig out
it is a well worth it thread to get started!!!
glad you thunk of it..
my thunker is not so great of late..

Joe's revised data sheet in the above sticky has information on the correct sheaths up through 1980 which is as far as it currently goes.

Johnny, Thats what I'm seeing at show as well. The decent ones are 45-50$, blade good frame good not too many dings. A 110 w/ several dings in the frame and wore blade about half the mentioned price. Then we buy them and send it to Leroy to clean and polish which is 25 more $s. If it needs a new blade or scales 55-60$. If he has one. So, its still worth it but a toss up. The key is finding those early ones in good shape and pay the 50$. The good buys are gone unless you live in San Diego. Its still fun collecting but in the 80's was the good yrs.. Yet I wasn't as educated then. So, here we are chasing the learning curve. DM

Then it would have been an easy article to write. The author merely reads what these collectors say, puts it in his own words and sends it in with a photo or two. :) DM
