Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

I don't know if it has celluloid covers, nor its age.

From the lack of heavy black corrosion on the blade and hollow bolsters, if it is celluloid it isn't out-gassing ... yet. 👍

I'd suggest keeping an eye on it.
Keeping it separate is your call. Provided you have someway to seperate it when not in use ... it wouldn't hurt anything.
Judging by the over-all condition, it presently isn't necessary. 😇👍

If it ever does outgas, you can take off the spring bail, then bend one of the tabs (pivot end will probably be the easiest) to remove the "bolsters" and "covers", then remove the black film and reassemble.

I think this came from Amazon maybe 7 ish years ago. Definitely under $20. Forgot I had it. Nice enough knife. Sharp, good looking and solid lock up. I'm guessing it's made in China.

Since it resurfaced this week I figured we may as well oil it up and put some scratches on it.

What is the point in removing the covers? In my experience, as a boy, and my experience was with a different brand knife, It didn't take many bends to break that tab off. Sometimes as few as one or two. I also never had any trouble removing the black film , with the scales on the knife, when I decided I wanted a sliver colored knife.

O.B.

Thank you. I’ll keep it separate just to be on the safe side but at this time there is no reason for drastic measures.

Take a look at this beauty I scored on eBay for 99 cents - shipping and tax were 6x the cost of the knife.

Its certainly fitting a knife was chosen as a momento. I am wondering if Custom Cutlery Classics contracted with GEC for this gem ... 🤔

My treasure is #316 so I assume at least 315 other lucky soles possess this treasure.

Anybody have a nice Koenig they want to trade for it? 🤣
