Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

I have three mid-80's TL29's, given by a brother that was in the Navy then, 2 Queens, and this Camillus. FWIW, in my limited experience, in that time frame the Camillus was a significantly better made knife.
[Very True. While Camillus, Camco, along with their other "discount" brands, the no name "Made In USA"/"USA" "gas station specials" made by Camillus, not to mention all the contract knives made for pretty much every other US knife company, hardware chain, and department store (Sears, Wards, Grants, et-al) at one time or another over the years) were inexpensive (excluding some contract knives for "high end" brands, which of course were not exactly/precisely "inexpensive") they were very well made.

Personally, I believe Camillus USA made a better knife than Case.

In their heyday they compared favorably to the best Queen/Queen City, Schatt & Morgan, and the other "top end" production brands were putting out, at a noticably lower price.

This is the knife I'm totin today and the knife I posted on in the "What Traditional Knife Are You Totin Today" this morning. It belongs here in this "Thrifty Thursday" thread because it was only $50.00 and change when it was purchased in 2012.

Stainless Pakistan. Ew, Ick.

But some stainless Pakistani did a great job.
I'll have to use it and see about the steel.
(I've had it a long time but not used it.

Victorinox serrated paring knife probably could have been my Knife of the Year for 2021. I spent most of my adult life, until about 6 years ago, using a cheap plastic-handled serrated steak knife as my go-to knife in the kitchen. This Vic has me feeling quite nostalgic, but it's a better knife than my old steak knife, and didn't cost much more than you'd pay per knife for a set of cheap steak knives from Target, and it even has a tiny Swiss cross on the handle!

I have the newer one with the blunt tip and it's awesome. It lays in the sink and utensils dryer thing, gets banged up and so but still cuts well. Perhaps not razor sharp but does the job. Amazing. I have to get the folding one for the summer.

I have the model Victorinox calls a folding paring knife and consider it also an amazing knife. I can't see a spring in it; it stays open via a linerlock, but I'm not sure how it stays closed securely (as it does). It's quite long (about 5" closed, 4" blade), but very light with neither spring nor liners. Crazy value for under $20!

Forgot to post my Thrifty Thursday choice this morning before I left the house for eye doctor appointment, basketball, and teaching my last class of the semester, and couldn't post it while I was away from home because I needed to refer to the list I made of "new" Thrifty Thursday candidates when I changed my thrifty threshold to account for inflation. But I'm back home with my list now, and for this date, my list dictates a Marbles ram's horn sowbelly stockman. Relatively low price, but IMHO a great knife.

That’s the one. I didn’t know they came with straight edge. Vic serrations are one of the good ones!

Thanks, Todd; knives I take on vacation always seem to look better! 🤓

I should probably get one of the serrated folders in my May Day knife order.

My Thrifty Thursday entry this week is a Colt Coral Canoe. Looks like it's due for a photo session, since this is the only shot I currently have:
