Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Under ten dollars when I got it just a few years ago...

I got few MAMs and few Opinels
I prefer MAMs a bit more because their locks are a bit more handy
(just my "handy" opinion)

MAMs are nice. I like that I can open and close mine fairly easily with one hand (though I suppose that’s true for most friction folders). The “lockup” on mine is pretty bad; the blade rattles around quite a bit when open. They’re almost as slicey as an Opinel. I do wish they came in carbon steel.

"Lockup?" The two MAM I have lack that feature.
When I ordered them, I thought to self: "Self, you don't use the lock ring on your Opinels. Why get a blade lock on this?"

I'll agree with your sentiments on carbon steel.
I asked MAM if they still had a carbon steel version in production. They actually responded to my email!! 😱

"We only use stainless steel now for consistency." 😟

Oh well. There are other friction folders available with carbon steel blades ... I think I'll get a Svord Peasant next... not that I need another friction folder for EDC ... 🤔
