Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Imperial Electrician in Bakelite covers (I believe) and the RR Swayback in Denim Micarta. Kelly hatchet with a new hickory haft. It has runout and all kinds of red flags as a user. But, the wood is pretty in color and this particular example is a hanger, not a user. Thanks for looking.

P.S.—Less than $50 in everything in View attachment 2436745the pic. I’ll take that for thrifty.

I’m going to go out on a limb and include this Boker, especially the way prices are going.View attachment 2436910
Alan, I always had the impression that "thrifty" was totally subjective in this thread, and each poster could use whatever criterion they wanted to. But I know what you mean about prices. I've bumped up my "thrifty threshold" by a couple of bucks once already, and may inflate it again for the New Year.

I won’t quote prices Gary 5K Qs 5K Qs but I think this is as high as I should go here. Of course the way things are going, who knows.

two "nice" solid, high quality and sharp "thrifties"** carry this week (maybe longer?)

25OT two blade slipjoint folding hunter, and 858OT Lumberjack stockman.
No noticable gaps. No blade/liner rub. No wiggly wobbly blades. Blades are fairly well centered. (might be a small fraction of an mm off.)
The 7CR17MoV blades take and hold the keen 10DPS edge I was learned to sharpen to 64 or 65 years back.

I do wish they were available with T10 or some other carbon steel, tho.
(the vintage 858 was only in "Schrade+" ... not sure about the 25OT back in the dark pre-computers/"smart"phone ages.)

**taking inflation into consideration.
They were ~$20 each "thanks" to inflation ...
not precisely "thrifty" ... up from the thrifty $12~$15 nott tew long a go.

I have one of these. Nice pattern
Thanks, Mike; I thought it was so nice I bought it twice! 🤓 Really like a whittler with a spear main blade.
(GEC must have liked the idea, too, since they finally made that #59 (?) Shaffer Farm Whittler almost like the RR. ;))
