Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

A very nice souviner knife.
Amazing Trivia:
1) A bottle of soda really did cost a nickle. (plus the bottle deposit if you didn't have an empty to trade-in.)

2) At that World's Fair you DIDN'T have to leave your souviner knife in the car or at the gate, returning the day(s) after getting the knife.

3) Even more amazing: If the person carried a pistol or revolver, they did not have to leave it in the car, at the gate, or even declare it was on them when entering the fair!!! 🤯😳

Got this knife for $1.50 at a flea market. My first attempt at a new handle is the first photo. The second is my attempt to give more wood to the project, as my first attempt was meh. This is a piece of hickory from a hatchet haft. I thought it turned out pretty good. The steel in the knife is pretty dang hard and holds an edge. Tackling it will be my next step. Anyway, I was fairly pleased with the new handle. Thanks for viewing. View attachment 2480035View attachment 2480038View attachment 2480037

The hickory looks great, keep up the good work! 👍

I believe today's carry (possibly my carry through the "weekend") is "Thrifty".
Over to Under:
N.COBEGA (may be "CODEGA") "Premana" friction folder. (in a dangler sheath clipped to a splitring on the 03:00/15:00 hour belt loop.
MAM (non-locking) Sheepsfoot friction folder wiith factory leather lace FOB. (in RFP) (INOX blade. 😟)
OPINEL N°6 with Olivewood handle. (INOX blade 🥺) (In RFP)
Higonokami #10 (Brass handle with Blue Steel #2 blade.) (clipped to same splitring as the dangler sheath.)
TOFERNER Celtic/Norse/"Viking" (non-folding) pocket knife in modified OEM sheath with Celtic runes around triple interlocked diamonds.
(clipped to a split ring on first (last?) right side belt loop, and hung in RFP.) Blade steel is a Czech Republic spring steel, mainly used for springs on railroad locomotives and rolling stock. I really like the rustic "as forged" finish.

I'm not sure if this (no-name) neck knife is considered "traditonal" or "modern".
At under $17 retail in 2024(!), it qualifies as "thrifty". (especially if the claimed blade steel (S30V) is accurate! 😁👍)

I'm sure my grandparents and even to several "great" grandparents would recognize it as a small non-folding spear point sheath knife.

Whether they would care for the styling ... and/or question its usefulness ... is another matter.🙄

At any rate, if it is considered "modern", let me know. I will edit the photo and mention of it from this post. 😇👍
PHOTO EDITED to eliminate the sheath, per advice given.

Hope everyone as a fantastic "weekend" and remain un-cursed ... if not blessed. 😇👍
