Throw out every knife, (kitchen knives, fixed blades, folders) keep one...

Vic SAK for everything other than the kitchen. Runner up would be the two blade Northwoods Madison Barlow for everything other than the kitchen. A Mora would probably work for the kitchen if I just had to....

Nice! I am thinking something similar....."historically accurate Bowie"/beefed up chef's knife.

It's already a fighter AND a kitchen knife AND would no doubt perform passably as a "outdoors/camp knife."

I was thinking from the "other end"....

with a chef's knife.

Good call as well, Marci. I could meet you in the middle maybe... the Talmadge Tactical Kitchen Knife, size large, from Trace Rinaldi...

Well, I have somewhat recovered since post #19 (now only intermittent weeping over the thought :() and, leaving out the customs since I don't have a functional camera to post pics , the production ONE knife would be my Scrap Yard Son of Dogfather with its Azwelke kydex sheath with tec-lok. TA-DUM! :D Check it out, it ticks sooo many boxes. You want this knife.

The one thing in this life I do that requires a knife every single day is food prep. If I could only have one knife, an overbuilt kitchen knife would be the one. To that end, something like the Bark River Edwin Forrest Bowie might do (though I'd prefer something in the 8-10 inch area).

What would you keep if you had to throw out every sharp piece of steel you own. What can you live with to do everything?
Pretty tough to choose only one knife. I really don't have a good answer to your post. What would you choose?

This was the kind of knife I was thinking of as well. An example is the Bark River Wilderness Explorer I own. But I just can't see myself pealing potatoes with it unless the world ended as we know it..... so my feelings essentially are answered below.
NO is the best answer.

I like any of my folding knives than any of my kitchen knives. But if I have to throw out everything except one, that must be my 8" chefs knife. I am sure I can live normally as usual without any folding knife, but not so without a chefs knife, because I have to cook for me and the family regularly.

Another vote for the Becker BK-5, or the slightly more Fisk-ish Blackjack Magnum Camp Knife(the original version of what would become the BK-5). But I don't see a situation arising wherein I would have to dispose of all my other cutlery, so as a thought experiment, this one, like most questions of this type, would seem to be little more than 'What is YOUR favorite all-around knife?'

This exercise will make my brain explode, too many variables to consider. I'll have to stick with my DPx HEST f. I want to say a bigger maybe 5" blade fixed but truthfully I'd still rather be able to carry in my pocket than lug around a pound of blade.
