Throwable EDC folder

I know this is impractical, but just humor me. Are there any knives that would make a good EDC folder also throwable? This comes from being bored in the office and being tempted to get something to throw my knife at (with the door closed).

Man that's a tough question, too cheap and it will break too expensive it will break or at the very least gets destroyed! I Guess if a fixed blade even a small 1 isn't an option....I'd guess I'd go with a butterfly knife? I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will come along and help..... Or just get a dart board and throw darts ....lol

the Benchmade 530/531 folders are excellent throwers. Trust me. I've been bored once or twice...

I'm not into throwing knives but my son is, I ask him if he has any folders he throws. He said he throws a Benchmade 531 and an AG Russell frame lock spear point, because they are his EDC knives.

I agree with this. I have Axis locks and I would never, never throw one. This puts stresses on the knife the lock was not meant to take. However, that Triad lock is beast. If any folder could take that kind of abuse it would be a Cold Steel Recon 1, Lawman, or Code 4.

Well, the only knife I own that I'd be willing to even test would be my Buck 285 Bantam, but it might fit the bill! They're only $20, so no huge loss if it doesn't survive, and despite its super lightweight handle, the balancing point is right where the tang ends. The thing has a pretty damn fine blade on it; with better handle material and slight fit & finish tweaks it would be a a great knife rather than a decent one. Flicking the thumb stud for quick deployment requires so much force you actually feel a bit of pain afterwards.

The cheapest one at the local mini mart. So you don't feel bad when you break it.

Unless you're awesome at throwing, I would not reccommend anything. You'll just end up breaking a good knife. Get some of those tiny throwing knives and a cork board if you really gotta throw something.

Yeah I'd probably go for a cheap folder or a Cold Steel folder with the Tri-Ad lock

Does esee's folders also have the same warranty?

No, only their fixed blades. (except the ESEE Lite machete, the blade of which is made by Imacasa, not ESEE)

You really shouldn't use a folder as a thrower..common sense. ;)
If you must beware of bounce back, same as a throwing (fixed blade) knife outside.
Also, an office sounds kind of small for throwing.
Never mind.

Yeah your not lying. I used to throw knives that I didn't give a crap about. When a 1$ united cutlery thrower ricocheted and almost stuck in my dog I discontinued the hobby.

Or Voyager ;) those are cheaper. I threw mine a few times after seeing Fred Perrin's video. No damage, no wiggles. Get the tanto for the thick tip though.

For a technically-folding knife, you could go for a spear point butterfly knife of some sort; I'm thinking something of a Bradley Kimura VIII. Or if you could find a double-edge or bayonet model for a sharper tip geometry.

Office is small and from what I recall as a kid knives tend to bounce back towards you sometimes so distance is a key thing to factor in. It's just an all around bad idea sadly.

My advice ditch the idea, get a large corkboard bulletin board that people put up to pin things on and toss it on the wall then toss a dart board on it and have fun. The plastic tipped darts are just as fun as the "real" metal tip ones but the tips break more often on the plastic ones more often so have a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them out of the board. The corkboard will save your wall on any missed throws and also double for something for the darts to stick into when you miss the board badly instead of sticking into or bouncing off the wall.

Beyond that a balisong trainer is quite fun to play with at the computer.
