I'm taking the opposing stream here and I'm gonna say no, there is no folder I'd recommend for throwing too, if your that determined I've seen throwing stars that fold into a 4 pointed start out come aoart to make 2 double ended throwing knives.

I couldn't tell you where to find them as I wouldn't but then myself but I'm sure if you look in the K guy's site, Bud IIRC.

Yeah your not lying. I used to throw knives that I didn't give a crap about. When a 1$ united cutlery thrower ricocheted and almost stuck in my dog I discontinued the hobby.

yes. A quality folder like a Sebenza will not ricochet and almost kill your dog.

I know this is impractical, but just humor me. Are there any knives that would make a good EDC folder also throwable? This comes from being bored in the office and being tempted to get something to throw my knife at (with the door closed).

Any good EDC is throwable. You'll break it, bit it is throwable. So get whatever you want.

My advice ditch the idea, get a large corkboard bulletin board that people put up to pin things on and toss it on the wall then toss a dart board on it and have fun. The plastic tipped darts are just as fun as the "real" metal tip ones but the tips break more often on the plastic ones more often so have a pair of needle nose pliers to pull them out of the board. The corkboard will save your wall on any missed throws and also double for something for the darts to stick into when you miss the board badly instead of sticking into or bouncing off the wall.

Good idea. Quick off topic...if you cradle a metal push pin in your index finger, and throw it underhand at a corkboard (with spiral imparted by the index finger), you can get it to stick. Trust me.

:D

Carry a Queen stockman in D2 and take some anger management classes before you throw it. :D

Any chance of swapping over from knife throwing to dart throwing? Then, at least, you'll be building up a skill set that will be of some use down to the pub.

I guess you could also use a butterfly trainer as long as the tip is pointy I think knife kits has something like this or someone does even if it not a butterfly adds a bit of safety...lol ... I still vote dartboard.

In truth, I do not recommend throwing any folding knife.
Throwing places a lot of shock on a locking mechanism. It hits with varying degrees of shock at the weirdest angles imaginable. It's very unpredictable.

It's incredibly abusive and it may cause unseen damage that could come back to haunt you.
It will absolutely void warranty, and most importantly, it may simply break your favorite knife.

Our Tri-Ad lock is super tough, and it is amazingly resilient to shock. I know a lot of people who throw their Cold Steel folders (I do it myself) - but anything made by man can be broken by man, and if you are throwing your folder you need to accept that you are hurting it with every throw.

I have a XL Voyager Tanto that I throw for fun and it's become my "throwing knife" - but I don't carry it every day.
I personally think it's a lot of fun, but I wouldn't recommend throwing your "EDC". If you are just carrying one knife, then it would be ill-advised to risk damaging it.

Get a blow dart set up with a small target dart board. I have used that setup to combat boredom at home and at the office.

Just the fact that the actual friggin' Cold Steel guys are in here giving the OP advice is insane and awesome. Look at the videos, these guys are CRAZY, and here he is, being the voice of reason.

God, I love this board so hard.

To be an effective thrower,
It has to be tip heavy or pretty well balanced

I figure if you own it you can do whatever you want with it. Just remember, you might break it
A lot of our team here at HQ throw folders. We also throw folders a lot as part of our testing. It's a brutal test on a locking mechanism
Our Tri-Ad lock is good at absorbing shock, and in all the time I've been throwing folders at everything from wooden throwing targets to car hoods I've never managed to get my Voyager to fail, but I have no doubt that I'm wrecking that knife.

This is off topic, but as I figure you might read this, I wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to want to say thank you for making unabashedly inexpensive big, hilariously oversized, strong folders of a type that not many othe...strike that, NO other major production company makes and especially not at that price point. I love Spyderco, KAI/ZT, Buck and I own and love knives from all the other big guys as well. But Cold Steel products have always held a fond place in my knife heart, so to speak. I spent plenty of time when I was younger hacking my way through the woods with an XL Voyager, that thing NEVER let me down. Then I gave it to my buddy and never saw it again. LOL I eventually replaced it with a large Tanto Voyager, and will eventually have another XL.

Ok, gushing over. Back on topic, I would have to agree with any advice against throwing a folding ANYthing. I am, however, unsurprised that the Triad lock has stood up to your abuse so far.

SOG Pentagon Elite 1. Good balance, spear point. Original had better balance (liner lock), arc lock adds weight.
