Thumbdiscs,thumbstuds or thumbholes

Could someone post a photo of a good example of a thumbdisc? I have no idea what you guys are talking about!

1. Stud
2. Flipper
3. Disc
4. Hole (I really don't like the hole, which is why I own only 2 Spydies).

I like the hole the best because it never gets in the way when you're using the knife. After that, I like the disk because my thumb just seems to catch them better. Oddly, the majority of my folders are BMs and have the stud. I usually just flick 'em open anyway.

You forgot "buttons", gotta love that Thwacking sound when those autos open.

My favourites:

1. Flipper (CRKT, Camillus)
2. Hole (Spyder, 14 mm)
3. Studs (Boker the best, Gerber, Buck, CRKT)
4. Disc (I have only one, but doesn't like it.)

Holes when they are big enough - the Military and 800 seem right

Studs and discs are equal in my hand. They just need to be placed right. I dislike it when they stick too far out along the blade (negating some useable blade surface) and I dislike it when they are sufficiently away from the handle that they can easily be caught on clothing on the draw (un-planned "wave"-ing isn't safe).

I prefer thumbstuds for sure. I never could get used to thumbholes and have never tried the discs.

Hole in the first place (prefferably round)
Studs, discs, flippers or waves come second, in no particular order.

My favorite is the hole. The disc is next. I prefer not to use thumbstuds if I can avoid it. Not enough control with a thumbstud, and the blisters just suck.

I love discs functionally, aesthetically a hole is more appealing.

I am surprised no one mentioned the wave, that is hands down my favorite.

I also love the cobra hood on a spyder hole.

Most of my favorite knives have spydie holes.

Studs suck! On small knives they get int the way of sharpening and generally look stupid.

The Spyderco hole opens best for me, even if my hands are cold, wet, or greasy. I'll admit that I don't care for how they look versus a stud or disc, but I'll choose function over form every time.

flipper, stud, disc, then hole (if the knife is right, i bought my skirmish in spite of the hole)

Depends a lot on the size & geometry of the knife, too.

I could never even imagine an Endura with a thumbstud.
Same way I couldn't imagine a BM 710 with a hole - there isn't even room for one as built.

Flipper
Hole
Stud
(yuck!) disc

I want to be able to open the knife really fast... but also not have to take a dental pick to get food and gunk out of the area around the stud or disc if I'm not right next to some running water after I use the thing...
