Based on a lot of your expert opinions, I'm about to pull the trigger on a Spyderco Sage 2. It seems to have everything I want (except made in USA), but I want to be sure this is the one before I plunk down $150...

Does anything else fit this bill as well or better before I go with the Sage 2?
  • ~$150
  • Ti Framelock design
  • S30V Steel
  • ~3" blade
  • Tank-like construction

$150 is a lot for me to spend, so I just want to double-check with you first before I pull this trigger.

Thanks in advance!!

Excellent choice. My favorite Spyderco. I think it's a great value too. You could get something comparable for your price but not better IMO - you won't be dissapointed in the sage 2!

Pull the trigger. Don't look back.

The SageII is the only one I know of that meets your criteria.
Its a great knife:thumbup:

The Sage 2 is a very fine knife and your specs are just about covered perfectly by the Sage 2 minus U.S. made. Although the blade is shipped to Taiwan from the US I'm told.

I believe the Taiwanese MFG making the Sage 2 is unparalleled in the Spyderco F&F category as well as the MFG making the Gayle Bradley

I think the sage 2 is way too expensive for a Taiwanese made knife! The titanium military is made in the USA and is less than $50 more and much bigger (more materials) !!!! How is this possible ? Now I know the mili is bigger than you want but I was just using it as an example of how spyderco is charging way too much for a knife that us practically made in China !!!

I don't think you can group spydercos Taiwanese made blades with chinese made knives. The GB is renowned for its fit and finish and it is made in Taiwan. TI, Framelock, S30V - how many knives made ANYWHERE cost under $150 w/that combination?

The Sage 2 is an excellent knife. Designed by an American company, made from American parts, and sold by an American company. What does this mean? It means the profits for this knife go to the USA. I own the Sage 2 and it's a great knife for the money. Buy it and use it with confidence. :)

Hmm, I really am at a loss as to how you can write off so many variables with such a poorly thought out statement. How do you know Spyderco is charging too much or too little for that matter? Or any other company? :thumbdn:

Wow you just lost most of the respect members had for you. :thumbdn:

Another option to consider is the Bradley Alias II. I have two of them, and they are great knives for $168:

Got mine at NGK:

so did you ever respond to a very similar post you made about how you felt the PPT should cost the same as a buck vantage? a lot of very good responses were given, clearly they didnt change your opinion.

have the sage 2 made to the very high level of quality its made at ANYWHERE in the world, and its not going to be cheap.

newsflash, made in taiwan, china, etc, no longer means dirtcheap labor, in some cases.

The Sage2 is a gem of a knife for the price. I have never handled a $300-$400 folder but I don't see how you could get more perfect fit and finish than the Sage2.

I'm not judging the quality of the sage 2 as every spyderco I own is just wonderful I just think it's priced rather high compared to it's USA made kin... It's just my opinion and I choose to buy domestic products as much as possible....

Nothing wrong with making that choice. I personally avoid Chinese knives like the plague. No need to discuss reasons in this thread. IIRC Sal from Spyderco said they have a set profit ratio on all their knives so whatever percentage they're making on the Sage2 it's the same as the US or Japan made ones. I've owned a few Sydercos in my day and the Taiwan ones were better than the Japan ones. Not by much but I could tell the diff.

I just "downgraded" from a Small Classic Sebenza, to a Sage 2 as part of a trade. Not knocking the Sebenza one bit, its an awesome knife with all kinds of amazing little touches. But the Sage 2 is as close to a perfect EDC blade as I have found. One of the biggest things I like about it over the Sebenza is the ergonomics. The small seb was a tad to small for my hands, the Sage 2, fits perfectly. I thought my UK PK was a comfy knife to hold, but the Sage is even better. The FFG cuts like a laser.

The materials and fit and finish are excellent. The main difference I see, it that the CRK puts slightly more effort into rounding edges. If I look for it, I can find a few slightly sharp edges on my Sage 2, but I have not felt them in actual use.

In the end, for me, the Sage 2 is the best knife I have owned (for me, that CRK is still tops for overall perfect build quality). It is so good that I know I will grab a Sage 3 when it comes out, and whatever other Sages that come out after.:)

I don't know about regular production, but I do see them available. I think BladeHQ had a few in stock, and they show up used occasionally.

I just got an Alias 1 and I feel I need to stock up while I can with a few 1's and 2's. Damn near perfect knife and a steal at the price.

Leafstorm

Man, I was so ready to pull the trigger after hearing all the positive remarks on the Sage 2...then you had to throw the Leafstorm into the mix!! That is one awesome knife! Something about it just seems perfect..

The Alias II also seems very nice (more of a Sebenza style blade), but I just love the style/shape of the Spydercos..

So now how do I decide between the Leafstorm and the Sage 2?? I do like that the Sage 2 has a longer blade, and I wonder if it is more comfortable in the hand than the Leafstorm... but the Leafstorm just looks amazing!

This post was supposed to make this decision easier...:confused:
