Tilliefied!

Great write up Joe!

Unfortunately i became BDU Booniefied early in life. later I became Akubrafied. Both happened before I knew what a Tilley was.

I do need to get one. Theres a little shop in West Virginia that sells Akubra hats. When I'm there in June I'll see if they have Tilleys.

You mean West "BY GOD" Virginia don't you???

Big Mike that's a classic pic!

LT3 here. Have had it for a couple years now and love it. Best outdoors hat I've ever owned. I wish I could have found the LT6 locally though as it has a bigger brim.

I have two Tilley hats and think they are absolutely worth every $. I have a T3 for fall and winter and a LT6 with the mesh crown for spring and summer.
I lost the T3 almost a year after buying it and they replaced it for half the cost of a new one. Fabulous warranty and tough as nails.:D

Best hat I have ever worn. My skin doctor told me, that you had better wear a hat with a wide brim. Be sure to get it big enough. I sold one because it got to small, or got the big head, haha.

Some day I'll get me a Tilley. Until then I'm rocking the North Face Breeze Brimmer. It's a poor man's airflo Tilley. It works though.

I have 2 of em, a T3 and a hemp one. I love the hemp one much more for comfort, but the nylon one is a bit better for the boat.

I just got my first Tilley, a TH4, for Christmas and I love it. Now I understand what all the fuss is about.

I've got a T4 and really like it. I'm a big brim kind of guy. I bought an REI knockoff with the air vents which I wear when it's really hot.

 Can someone tell us the difference in the tilley & BDU Boonie ?
I have only seen the mesh top tilley at Gander Mountian & I didn't care much for it. I have been wearing BDU Boonies for many years & for the $ you can't beat 'em. I'm not saying that Tilley's aint worth it, I'm saying I have never tried one, the $ scared me away :p

I wore the same LTM5 AIRFLO every day for 6 years in the S.E. Asian sun and heat. The brilliance of the Cambodian/Laotian sun bleached the green underside almost colorless, and throwing it into the washing machine every other day didn't help. But that hat still looked as good as new (except for the color of the lining...) and the insulation in the crown combined with the vent all around kept me cooler than any other hat I ever wore. Then one day I noticed that the edges of the brim no longer stayed flat... So I wrote to Tilley to ask them how I could fix this. Being so far away, they asked me to take a photo of the problem and send it to them by e-mail. The next day after sending I received an e-mail from Tilley saying they had put a new LTM5 AIRFLO into the mail for me, no need to even bother to return the old one. A week later I was wearing the one I have now, and it should last me a long, long time as I've since left the jungle sun and humidity. Best hats ever made and a great company to do business with!

I have a T3 and a LT6. I wear the T3 fishing on Chesapeake Bay and the LT6 everywhere else. I also have the baseball cap with the roll-down flap to protect your neck - it's the lighter fabric and has mesh vents but it is still too damn hot to wear.

Its the hemp one, and it comes with rat cutlery knives !!! (no actually it doesn't come with knives, but that would be fun :))

The LTM5 AIRFLO is a geat hot weather hat. The crown has foam insulation on top that really cuts down on the sun, and when you add in the mesh venting all around, it was the coolest hat I found to wear in the S.E. Asian jungles. Kept off the sun, the rain, and could be crushed up like a booney when I needed to keep it in my pack.

I recall somebody throwing matches in a little ziplock in the pocket at the top of the hat, I gotta remember to do that. On trips I keep a $40 in there, but unfortunately, I usually end up retrieving it at some point. Photocopy of your passport in a ziplock doesn't hurt either!

T3 is a good hat. Don't wear it much, but will this coming spring. Spring? It's mid 70s right now in my neck of the woods.

I've never owned a Tilley, but may have to purchase one after reading all the great things ya'll are saying about them here.

I'm a boonie hat kind of guy.
