Hey guys, new to the forum. I've been looking to retire my benchmade geiptilian. I'm lookin for an edc around 3-3.75 inch blade that can handle daily tasks of being around lots of dust and cutting cardboard often as well as zip ties and still retain a decent edge for a good amount of time, (which i think the 154cm in my BM has done well) I prefer g-10 handles and plain blades (don't care for serated blades) I'm looking to spend no more than 200. I've look at So many knives I'm at a stand still as to what I even want. Please suggest some of your tried and true edc's. Also I don't care for big bulky knives but I need my edc to be hard nosed and tough.

Awe man those para's are pretty sweet. Not that expensive either. The ones I've been looking at are the para, the ZT560 and the benchmade 940. But like I said I'm experiencing option paralysis

Why not try the new G10 scaled Griptilian. It has an upgraded steel and will hold an edge a lot longer than the one you plan to retire

Well honestly although I like the griptilian and it's been a great tool for 3 years but I'm looking for change of feel more than anything. Of course with g-10 it would change the feel but my gripe with this knife has always been the shape of the handle, I'm not sure why but its not my favorite feel and aesthetically looks a little to rounded for my taste.

I would suggest a ZT0562 or a little bigger and go with the new ZT0909.

That's an easy fix change the scales

PM2 for sure. Everyone needs to experience Spyderco's full flat ground blade. Best of luck!

Hey thanks for the pic Whitty those zt's really catch my eye, but I've not handled one, I'm sure they're quality knives. What's your opinion on there build quality and craftsmanship as compared to spyderco, benchmade, etc.

How about a CRKT No Time off? It's going to take a beating and ask for more!

Hogue EX01, EX02, or EX04 for something a bit different.

Benchmade 275, 908, or 950 (Adamas, Stryker, or Rift) for something along the same lines as you Grip, but different.

Viper Free (liner) or Dendra Defender (frame) for something Italian, in cardboard eating d2. (I work around a lot of dust and sand as well, and one plus to framelocks over other locks in that environment is that they don't get as gritty action from the sand/dust funking up the mechanisms, or wedging between the liner and scale on liner locks).

I also echo the choice for a Spydie PM2 , camo G10 in a plain edge. S30v steel.

Go on try one !!

The ZT 0566 is a very EDC-friendly size and one of the most modestly priced ZTs. Most of my EDC rotation has been sidelined in favor of the 0566.

In general, I think even the inexpensive Kershaw imports stand up to wear and tear quite well. Today, I'm carrying a One Ton (8Cr13MoV) that is still on its factory edge. It cut zip-ties, various cables, cardboard and whatever else, is still plenty sharp and hasn't developed any wiggles or rattles.

BM 940.....can't go wrong with this one!
PM2......amazing action and cutter!!
ZT 562.....all around sexy beast!! Go with Whitty and he'll anodize it for you.....free!! I did and love it!
ZT 450......great blade and awesome flipper!! Again.....Whitty!!
Good luck and let us know which you choose!!

em-er-son. 154cm blades made for abuse like the whole knife, and keeps comin' back for more. as a plus a number of his knives can be had for less than $200 from dealers and the exchange right here. also think about how you like to open your knife : stud, hole, disc, or flipper?

The benchmade 275 really has caught my eye lately but I'm afraid it's just too big and bulky for edc. Or so I've heard. Have you ever carried it in your pocket, if so what do you think about it in the role of edc?
