Time for another Ritter Grip limited ed?

I'd happily buy a Ritter with simple G10 scales and S30V before I'd buy a grip with the stock scales and ANY steel. I'd have replaced my Ritter scales long ago if they didn't cost more than the entire knife did. Just can't get over the cheap plastic feel of the handle. Though to be honest even with a nice steel, and G10 I wouldn't pay the ~$250-275 "package price" a lot of guys seem willing to spend to get aftermarket G10 handles on a Ritter or M4 mini-grip.

I must admit, I don't mind the standard scales that much. I must be one of the few. I just bought a Ritter Grip with the plan of adding aftermarket scales to it. However, the fact that the scales cost as much as the knife has given me pause. I will wait a while and hunt around, possibly I can find a pair here for less than new. I do think it adds to the fun though, being able to choose your own scale and backspacer configuration.

I am a big fan of the standard scales as well. I purchased two Mini Grips, then purchased two sets of custom scales from well known makers. Both were nice, but I sold them. Now I am back with the stock scales and very happy! The stock scales work. They are strong, light and fit my hand well. In my opinion there is no need to double or even triple the cost of the Mini Grip with custom scales.

I agree. The scales are not as bad as people make them out to be and, in fact, exactly what they need to be - durable and inexpensive. That being said, I would pay to get a factory knife with premium scales if that was an alternative as I'd imagine they would cost much less than aftermarket scales. Although there does seem to be better options for custom scales these days.

I agree but only on the mini, the large are terrible.

I wouldn't go quite as far as terrible, but IMO the mini is clearly better. The large is very serviceable, but I am not wild about that hollow sound. :)

G-10? Micarta? Make it Titanium scales with stonewashed M390 blade!

The thing is this: for the large, BM already has done G10 and carbon fiber scales, and micarta wouldn't involve any additional tooling, either. The increase in cost would be modest to minimal. That's not true for titanium. Titanium would send the cost of the knife through the stratosphere - sales would be small and BM would take a huge loss on the tooling time and cost.

I've been holding myself back from getting a Ritter Grip for awhile, but one with G10 or Micarta? I would not be able to resist. I'd prefer a Ritter Mini Grip though

The milling of the micarta would certainly be be easier on thier machines than the milling of the G10 was, that's for sure.

If they use G10 it would be nice to see something like translucent green or just something different. Micarta would be a win though!

Agreed, m390 and micarta would be a nearly unbeatable combo, especially if they could keep the cost under $150 or so, I'd have to buy one for sure, and I already have a standard 154cm and a limited edition cpm-m4 grip...

Considering the last batch of m4 ritter minis went for around $150, I'd venture to guess that a m390 version with a handle scale upgrade would likely be in the $200 range. I hope I'm wrong, but considering Doug Ritter has to get a cut of sales, the prices are going to be higher that the standard griptilian line.

My LE cpm-m4 only cost me $120, the bladeshow versions were around $200, so yeah I see your point, but seriously, my 710 m390 was $175 @KW, the m4's are in the $200 range, but hey I can dream can't I?

KW's pricing on the non-Ritter BMs is pretty well discounted - Ritters go for very close to MSRP.

It looks like there is plenty of interest in this item, so how do we get this done? Are BM as open to petitioning from their customers as, say, Spyderco? Anyone know who we can talk to over there at BM? Or is Doug Ritter the man to start with?

I would guess that this would go nowhere without Doug Ritter's ok as a starting point.

+1
and then BM's agreement with Doug on how things should go/look with the new Doug Ritter LE BM knife.
Now there's the two that need to come to an agreement.
So, until they do......we wait.

I'd be down even if we could just get a run of Ritter MK1s and/or mini MK1s in stonewashed M390 with standard scales, although canvas micarta or G10 would be a great bonus for which I'd pay extra without hesitation. It may not be realistic to have both, but I would certainly like to get my hands on a matching set.

Maybe we could even earmark some of the proceeds for Knife Rights.

What do you think, Doug? Any chance of this happening?
