Time from order to delivery?

Thats cool. But I emailed them roughly 2 weeks ago inquiring about acquiring a kydex sheath for the 5.1 i had preordered and received, which i ordered without due to a custom but a man needs options. and i have yet to hear back,i know they're busy and all...

Thanks for chiming in. I apologize if I come off an ass. I understand you guys are running a tight ship and although I have unanswered emails, I will leave you guys alone so we can get our orders fulfilled fast. No more emails from me,only new orders.

I don't think she meant stop sending emails, she's just saying that it be patient she's only one gal.

I know that. But I just felt that I would rather they concentrate on getting our knives done fast. At least I will stop harnessing them until their production is at a more stable speed.

Rant Starts Here:

As a former Fortune 100 corporate product manager turned entrepreneur / business owner and a lover of utilitarian designs, I have a special affection for Guy and Ellie’s little company. Although I have never met them, and only own 3 S!K knives, I have a lot of respect for what they are doing. Although not perfect, I think they do a great job with customer service, are as transparent as any company in the knife world and make kick ass tools. Anyone who thinks differently needs to step back and reconsider.

This is not a big corporate entity or even a mid-sized business with multiple tiers of management. S!K is Guy, Ellie and one other person. This is a craft business and Guy is an artisan / designer. He makes a product with peerless fit and finish, and a very refined design. Businesses like S!K are notoriously terrible customer service providers. In comparison to other companies their size and in their industry, S!K is actually doing great. Could S!K improve? Sure. They would probably be the first to admit it. However, it is all about perspective. All things considered I think S!K is doing a great job.

Please, think about this before you type. You are not berating some faceless corporate hierarchy or venting to a CS employee in India that is going to forget about you as soon as the call is over. S!K is real people who care A LOT about this company and are working hard to do something different and be successful.

Rant over.

I agree. As a small business owner I can attest to the fact that as soon as you get one fire under control another one has already started. From my perspective they're doing well.

Haha good point!
I'll put Cat Videos in the subject line from now on. I heard they're cat people!

Good thinkin', try a new angle, the old stuff's not workin'. Maybe go with Cat in the Hat videos, DOUBLE WHAMMY right there! Careful, though, we don't want to be too obvious. ;)

Actually they are dogs people too...so put dogs in the subject line....that'll throw them for a loop.

I've read the responses and this has gone in an unintended direction without ever really answering the question.

The website says:

"We do not have guaranteed delivery dates for preordered knives. Once the knives start production it typically takes 3-6 months for all of the materials to be produced."

http://surviveknives.com/production-schedule/

A year is not that big of a deal for an order. Gene Ingram is a year to a year and a half, Dozier longer, and Phil Wilson is not even taking orders now.

As a small business owner I can say, good communication with clients and customers is critical as is managing expectations from the beginning, especially when requiring payment in full up front, which is not the usual practice.

If the real estimated time is a year or two, then say that up front and let folks know that going in, which might also cut down on the number of customer inquiries and grumbling.

The product appears to be very good and a nice value.

Luckily I found a new one in the exchange for a modest markup, and went ahead and put in an order too for the Bushcraft, which looks very nice.

I wish them all the best and hope they succeed.

Luckily I was able to get an order through with Mr. Wilson fairly recently. Got it almost a year ago after waiting only around 7 months or so.

On the other hand, in about another month it'll be two years since I got on the books for a Skookum and at that point I'll only have another two years or so left. :D
