Time to retire the PM2 from EDC?

This is one reason why I started to put a slip joint knife in my pocket.

I have to say I had this happen with a 710 but it was ENTIRELY my fault. For a walk down town I put it in my BACK pocket with the spine away from the seam of the pocket and toward the contents of the pocket, which was a handkerchief.
The knife stung me.
These guys educated me as to what a dumb ass thing that is to do. The handkerchief snagged the tip of the blade (tip up) and opened the knife when I put the handkerchief away.

I have to say I have carried the heck out of several Para 2s and have never even had a hint of the possibility of the knife opening in my pocket.
I carry the Para 2s in my strong side front pocket tip up with the spine always against the seam of the pocket facing away from the contents of my pocket. I never carry gloves in my front pocket or much in the way of cloth but lots of other stuff going in and out all day at work for it.
Zero prob.
PS : apparently I am a highly misguided individual because I ALWAYS set up my Paras to swing very free / drop in a flash.
Still zero prob.
Keep the Para2 I say; one of the best dang users out there . . . stock from the factory (no mods).

I've carried or handled just about every knife under the sun and keep coming back to the Endura and Delica. ZDP-189
I carried my Endura 4 ZDP this week
I won't be giving up my Para2s though.
Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, . . . etc.

Did some digging today on this issue regarding shorts and jeans. I have only had issues with certain shorts and not jeans. Jeans provide more tighter tolerances naturally and shorts are generally loose and light and any movement that might shake blade free have to be taken into consideration. Going forward I will just not carry PM2 in shorts anymore only in jeans.
ALL my knives are carried same way tip up, right hand carry, spine of blade toward hip and seam of garment.
Checked detent and it is definitely weaker than my domino, but the PM2 has been carried everyday for 7 yrs.

haha
I guess I have a guardian angel because my standard "work pants" are very loose black synthetic , pleated front, shorts. Have been for ever. Nothing but. It is hot in the building I work in and I cannot tolerate long pants there.
Like I said . . . zero prob with my plethora of Paras.

Hell I even ride my bicycle to work every single day with the knife in the same pocket going up and down with my leg at ~100rpm.
I'm just saying . . .

I did have my Tasman Salt not lock up right the other day. I felt it not clicking in solid like it always has before. I investigated and found some pocket fluff, compacted by the lock into a little chip of paper like stuff. I picked it out with a tooth pick in a few seconds; super easy to remedy.

Perhaps you have some pocket lint in the Para compression lock that is acting like a mild spring and opening the knife ? ? ? ?

This thread is another reason to love a stiff tri-ad lock knife from Cold Steel--I carry a clipless Tuff Lite loose in one of my pockets pretty much all the time and those stiff little buggers present no risk of getting wiggled or snagged open at all.

I have had a couple of axis lock knives wiggle open a bit and try to take a finger here and there, but I've always chalked that up to their weakish detent from closed. Bizarrely, I've cut myself worse on closed knives whose tips or edges are exposed than I have by the knives that have opened (I'm looking at you, Medford 187 RMP).

I carry most of my knives tip down in the right hip pocket, blade toward the side of the pocket. If forced to carry tip up, make sure blade is towards side of pocket. Only type I would carry loose in the pocket would be a slip joint or a back lock. Any other lock type is asking for trouble eventually...
