Well, After about 6 years of dealing on various blade related forums I have finally met a person to caution you about: TIMEPERFECTION (timeperfection@yahoo.com). A man who does not stand behind his deals.

I am dissatisfied with a "no haggle, paid asking price" deal on a titanium Lum (on KF, not on BF). I was promptly billed via paypal, I paid lightening fast, and I will hand it to timeperfection (name is steven mahoney I believe of Fayetteville, NC.), he shipped lightening fast. However, upon receipt, I find the knife has a defect and the man simply will not respond to any email or PM requests of mine to set this deal right.

To a person who is not a knife nut, it is reasonable to assume he may not have ever realized or known of the defect; but this does not excuse a failure to respond to a request to square the deal.

It has been nearly 2 weeks since my note of concern. If Steven is actually not a jackass, and a good guy who had a problem, crisis, etc., who will respond and square up with me, I will update this post, or ask that it be eliminated.

mods: if inappropriate of me to post this, I advance my apologies, please remove it

Take care, Dan

I just had some problems with him recently as well. I don't know what is going on with him but I don't believe in conducting business in this manner.

He left a reply to my "for sale" post here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=601992 at response #13 stating that he would take my knife and to send him a paypal invoice to his email address. I sent the paypal invoice and didn't hear anything for a few days. I sent him an email reminding him that I had sent a paypal invoice and the next day I received notice that he cancelled the invoice.

There was no explanation given. Yes.....things come up from time to time that might prevent you from completing a transaction but if you say you are going to purchase something from someone then make the damn purchase!

This remains unresolved. It amazes me that someone will sell their reputation for as little as $230. Time to write this off and move on. I doubt the PayPal dispute will yield a thing.

I have done many transactions with mndart (Dan) Purchases and sales ...he is as solid as they come... his word is good as gold.

If Dan is making a post like this , it is for the benefit of other members.

Sorry to hear this Dan....but thanks for the heads up.

Mark

what exactly is the defect?

Hi SIFU, There is small but deep cut/grind in the top back side of the blade like a dremmel or file mark; as though someone had thoughts of waving it and realized this is a mistake. I have had (4), seen many, looked at recent shots, none had this type of flaw. Also, I suspect it was sharpened. This did not show in the pix. These things happen.... no biggie.

I sent shots to Steven asking him to discuss this with me and have not received the courtesy of his reply. All I want is for the guy to talk to me. There is no reason we cannot come to terms. I like the knife.

I am done worrying about it. I have moved on.

Mark and Keith, thank you. The good news is I have a nice looking Ti Spydie Lum that I will consider a possible EDC or some lucky person will get a nice EDC Lum for a great price. The bad news: I overpaid.

Could be, or it has "taken care of" one person ;)

Then, perhaps it is that he sold me a second without disclosing it. It is not worth $230.
I don't know if he knew it, and don't care. He needs to respond.

Thanks for shedding some light on that point S&S. It does make sense.

You guys are right. I finally hit the spydie forum and there is a pile of seconds hitting eBay:
from spyderco forums posted today....

Hi,

Also keep an eye out for spyderco 'seconds' knives that are being sold on ebay without the seller advising you in the description that its a second.

Any spyderco with a nick in the top (or bottom) of the spine near the handle is a second and shouldn't be worth as much as a 'first/good' (for lack of a better word) knife. Sometime sellers don't know that the nick was put there to mark it as a second, other times the pictures will be taken kindoff fuzzy or from an angle that hides the nick so you can't tell.

Same goes for knives that have been 'customized' by adding grips lines to the back of the spine. These are sometimes used to hide the fact the knife is a second.

This goes the what Mr. Levine advises in his forum. Always ask for better pictures. If the seller won't provide them, move on regardless of how good of a "deal" it seems to be.

Yup. Words to live by.

The deal was not that good. I just wanted the knife. The price was not an issue.
