Tip-up carry accident

This is exactly why I don't carry any folder Tip Up. I gave a friend of mine an Emerson folder, he was an LEO at the time and used the knife very little (it saw alot of pocket time though). After several weeks of carry he was reaching in his pocket at the end of the day and the blade was slightly open (the Tanto point was sticking well out of the liners) and he sliced his fingers deep (had to have 3 stitches). Needless to say he gave the knife to someone else with a warning.

diddnt you get the memo??? Tip down is the new tip up!
:D You got that right.

The whole concept of a clipped & partially exposed knife seems odd to me. Maybe that's a legal requirement some places - but it seems to me that displaying what's in your pocket like that may be a belligerent sign to some. I guess that is why they are supplied in a removable form. I hope the OP has no nerve damage - and heals quickly.

Stainz

where i live, if it's clipped it's legal. if it's in the pocket, it's a concealed deadly weapon.

The thing I like about tip up (I carry a Strider SnG, so I'm not worried about it opening accidentally with that stiff ball detent.) For me having it clipped to the pocket means that I am able to remove it from my pocket quicker and easier. (No I don't pull my knife for defensive or offensive purposes, except against annoying packaging.) I just appreciate having my knife as handy as possible. This is especially convenient with tight pocketed jeans. :)

DRod,

Here's the problem. I am a lefty, and I could not change the clip to the left side (could not loosen that torx!!!).

Pocket clip screws are quite often loc-tite sealed.

Applying heat locally to the screw will release the screw.

I have found that a soldering iron held on the screw head will heat the screw enough to release the seal without heating anything else.

I've cut myself twice (in church, no less!) on a Kershaw Onion Rainbow Leek carried in the pocket tip-up. Switched back to my CRKT Crawford Kaspar carried tip-down IWB and never had a problem since...even left more room in my pocket, too...

The Leek now resides in a pocket of my Bible cover....hopefully that will exorcise the bloodthirsty little demon in that thing.... :D

Thats why I'm a tip down boy , an old skool Benchmade /Crawford Leopard did a number on me . Others have nicked me too .

Chris

I remember a piece of paper with one of my CKRT M-16 type knives (The big brown one with the tanto point) anyway it said dont carry tip up in pocket. I've heeded their warning on that, but I've always carried my spydies tip up, I guess I'll just have to make sure to check the pivot screw. I remember cutting myself somewhat badly with a kershaw scallion years ago, but I cant remember if it was a tip-up issue or not.
